Mixed pasture grass-legume systems balance forage supply and minimize environmental impacts by reducing the need for nitrogen fertilization. Pinto peanut (Arachis pintoi Krap. and Greg. “Amarillo”) has several traits that are suitable for mixed pastures but have not yet been adequately explored. The aim of this study was to evaluate a mixture of Tifton 85 bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) and pinto peanut and evaluate forage yield, crude protein, and stocking density. A two-year study of three grazing systems was used with the following treatment combinations: (a) Tifton 85 (T) + 100 kg N ha-1 yr-1 + pinto peanut (T + PP+100); (b) T + 100 kg N ha-1 yr-1 (T + 100; control, pure grass); and (c) T + 200 kg N ha-1 yr-1 (T + 200; positive control, pure grass). In this study, forage yield, pasture characteristics and responses of lactating cows were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized with three treatments (grazing systems), three replicates (paddocks), and repeated measures (grazing cycles within seasons). Forage accumulation, crude protein concentration, and stocking rate were 15.1; 11.3 and 14.1 t DM ha-1 yr-1; 17%, 16%, and 17%; and 5.3; 4.9 and 6.1 AU ha-1 day-1, respectively. The grass-legume system yielded the best results.

This study was developed to examine the growth, yield, chemical composition and in situ degradability of elephant grass cv. Napier (Pennisetum purpureum). Five spraying protocols with biostimulants were tested, namely, Control - no application; 1BR - bioregulator at seven days; 2BR - bioregulator at seven days + bioregulator and foliar fertilization at 20 days; 2BR2 - bioregulator at seven days + bioregulator and foliar fertilization at 20 days + ethylene inhibitor at 30 days; and 3BR - bioregulator at seven days + bioregulator and foliar fertilization at 20 days + ethylene inhibitor and bioregulator at 30 days. The grass was cut evenly at a height of 15 cm and harvested at 70 days of regrowth. The experimental area was divided into two blocks according to the slope. Ninety plots were used, totaling an area of 4,608 m2. Each plot was composed of four 4-m rows spaced 80 cm apart. Chemical composition, morphological traits and forage digestibility data were evaluated. The 3BR protocol, with more bioregulator-based applications, resulted in higher canopy (9.78%) and stem (9.58%) compared with control group. The 2BR and 2BR2 treatments provided a 6.5% higher stem than control treatment. The improvement in the nutritional value of Pennisetum purpureum cv. Napier was due to the 17.55% increase in crude protein (CP) content provided by protocol 3BR relative to control group. Treatments 2BR2 and 3BR improved the effective degradability of dry matter (DM). The application of biostimulant protocols increased the potential degradability of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) (+4.1%), with the greatest response seen in treatment 2BR2 in comparison with control treatment. Biostimulant protocols increase the canopy and stem heights and CP content. The application of a bioregulator associated with foliar fertilization and ethylene inhibitor improves the effective degradability of DM and NDF and the potential degradability of NDF in Pennisetum purpureum cv. Napier harvested at 70 days of regrowth.

A pecuária ocupa lugar de destaque na economia brasileira, principalmente a bovinocultura de corte e leite, assim o sucesso desse setor é primordial para o crescimento do país. Porém, a produtividade deste setor está intimamente ligada a qualidade das pastagens, pois essas são a principal fonte alimentar dos bovinos, e cerca da metade das pastagens brasileira encontra-se com algum grau de degradação, diminuindo assim a produtividade e rentabilidade desse setor. Devido a isso, a busca por tecnologias de recuperação de pastagens vem sendo pesquisadas, sobretudo as que diminuam os custos no processo de recuperação, procurando aumentar a produtividade e qualidade das pastagens, preservar o meio ambiente e maximizar os lucros para os produtores. Visto isso, o uso de novas fontes de adubação e a implantação de sistemas silvipastoris tem sido amplamente estudado e aplicado para recuperação dessas áreas, dentre eles podemos destacar o uso de biossólido que um adubo orgânico proveniente do tratamento de esgoto sanitário, assim como a implantação de pecuária-floresta utilizando Moringa oleífera uma planta leguminosa a qual fixa nitrogênio no solo e pode servir como fonte alimentar para os animais. Sendo assim, nesse trabalho está descrito o cenário da degradação e pastagens brasileiras e o uso de biossólido e moringa na recuperação dessas áreas.
