The aim of this study is to determine the phytoplankton species found on the shores of Burgaz Island and the basic ecological variables that affect their seasonal distribution between May 2013 and February 2014. Water samples were collected from four stations at six different depths and plankton samples were gathered horizontally and vertically. The analysis of phytoplankton community composition revealed 101 phytoplankton taxa belonging to five classes. As a result of the study, two taxa belonging to the Dinophyceae (Corythodinium frenguellii and Gonyaulax scrippsae) were new records for Turkish coastal waters. Additionally, a taxon belonging to Dinophyceae (Pronoctiluca pelagica) and a taxon belonging to Bacillariophyceae (Nitzschia reversa) were new records for the Sea of Marmara. Prorocentrum micans, was the dominant species throughout all sampling periods. During the study, the highest phytoplankton abundance was observed at 0.5 m depth in May 2013 (138,500 cells l−1) and February 2014 (52,620 cells l−1). Primary ecological variables, such as temperature (9.0–21.5 °C), salinity (15.23–37.22‰) and dissolved oxygen (4.89–15.84 mg l−1), were recorded on each sampling occasion. In addition, nitrite + nitrate–N (NO2 + NO3–N) (0.01–7.37 μg-at N l−1), phosphate (PO4–P) (0.05–51.95 μg-at P l−1) and silicate (SiO4–Si) (0.01–0.20 μg-at Si l−1) concentrations were measured. Chlorophyll a and suspended material values ranged between 0.01–3.17 μg l−1 and 10.0–61.5 mg l−1, respectively. Spearman's rank correlation was used to determine the relationship between phytoplankton species and ecological variables, and Bray–Curtis analysis and Euclidean distance were applied to bring out the similarity between stations.

Dinoflagellates are one of the phytoplankton groups that an important role as primary producers in waters. However, in very abundant conditions (blooming) it can be dangerous for ecosystems and aquatic biota. This study aims to determine the composition and abundance of harmful dinoflagellates and environmental factors that influence the presence of dinoflagellates in coastal area of Mayangan and Binor, Probolinggo Regency, East Java. The method used in this study is a survey method by determining the sample point by purposive sampling. The research was conducted in March 2022. The result showed that the abundance of dinoflagellates in Mayangan waters 255 – 1511 cells/mL consisting of 10 genera namely Alexandrium, Ceratium, Dinophysis, Gambierdiscus, Glenodinium, Gymnodinium, Ostreopsis, Peridinium, Phyrodinium, and Prorocentrum. The abundance of dinoflagellates in Binor waters 716 – 2536 cells/mL consisting of 10 genera namely Alexandrium, Amphydinium, Bysmatrum, Cochlodinium, Gambierdiscus, Glenodinium, Gymnodinium, Peridinium, Protoperidinium, and Scrippsiella. The highest genus in Mayangan waters Ceratium 18% and Binor waters Protoperidinium 21%. The abundance of dinoflagellates in the Mayangan and Binor waters has no potential for blooming, but the presence of the dinoflagellate genus in the waters can still endanger coastal ecosystems because it can produce toxins. The presence of dinoflagellates is influenced by environmental factors such as salinity, nitrate, and phosphate.

Microalgae as phytoplankton become the considerable attention object because of their potential in various application. Microalgae can be discovered in various ecosystems and growing in all environmental conditions. The purpose of this study was to identify the genus and abudance of microalgae in some of the coastal area of Sumatera Island, Indonesia. This study was conducted in August until September 2022. The method used is descriptive quantitative by exploration and microalgae calculations. The calculations based on Shannon-Wiener such as abundance, relative abundance, diversity index, uniformity index and dominance index. The sampling area selected was carried out in Suak Ribee Beach (Aceh), Gandoriah Beach (Padang) and Lengkuas Island (Belitung). The sampling method used the random sampling method by horizontal sampling. Statistical analysed is NMDS (non metric multidimensional scaling). The results obtained were 4 class, namely Bachillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Fragilariophyceae and 21 genera, namely Achnanthes, Anabaena, Aphanocapsa, Bacillaria, Chalamydomonas, Chroococcus, Cocconeis, Diploneis, Encynopsis, Eudorina, Eupodiscus, Fragilaria, Gyrosigma, Hyalodiscus, Navicula, Nitzschia, Oocytis, Parlibellus, Peronia, Stauroneis and Ulothrix. Microalgae was dominated by group of Bachillariophyceae (76%). The abudance of microalgae obtained range from 11.117 – 36.442 cells/L. The results showed that the diversity index value was moderate (1,46), low dominance (0,17) and moderate uniformity (0,48).
