Preference of red mite Tetranychus ludeni Zacher (Acari: Tetranychidae) to sweet potato genotypes

Abstract: Tetranychus ludeni damages the sweet potato. Pest development can vary between plant genotypes. The objective was to identify the preference of Tetranychus ludeni for Ipomoea batatas genotypes, from the germplasm bank at the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM). Natural infestations of this mite were observed on 54 sweet potato genotypes in potted, in a greenhouse. Three mite-infested leafs of each genotype were collected and analyzed. The red mite showed different population densit… Show more

“…However, recent research indicates that the two-spotted spider mite may turn out to be a possible pest in maize crop in Brazil (Botti et al, 2019). The injuries and damages caused by this mite species can be drastic when in favorable conditions (Marafeli et al, 2014;Castro et al, 2019). So, it is indispensable researches that study the behavior of this organism in maize, aiming to control of this mite population and, consequently, avoiding yield losses.…”

“…Mites are specialized in feeding the cytoplasmic content of cells, destroyed them (Fadini et al, 2012). Herbivorous mites are among the most important pests across the world (Castro et al, 2019). The use of transgenic plants expressing insecticidal proteins could affect or alter the biology and development of non-target organisms, such as mites.…”
