Abstract: Objective: to evaluate the impact on the quality of life as well as anxiety and pain in patients with nephrostomy tubes. Method: this is a longitudinal descriptive study performed on a sample of n=150 patients. To evaluate the quality of life, the EuroQol-5D questionnaire was used; anxiety was quantified by the Beck Anxiety Inventory; to study pain, a visual analogue scale was employed. Results: statistically significant differences were found in the quality of life, with its worsening (r = 0.51; p <0.01)… Show more

“…However, many patients do not present for NT exchange at the correct time, especially in developing countries, which can lead to chronic obstruction of the NT and further impairment in kidney function. [ 1 , 5 , 6 ] Although the median indwelling time of NTs was approximately 3 months in this study, some NTs remained in place for up to 1 year because of poor patient compliance. This resulted in a wide range of indwelling times.…”

“…Double J stent has a lower quality of life due to lower urinary tract symptoms whereas PCN has comparatively longer hospital stays, a higher rate of sepsis, and more anxiety issues. 16 , 17 The advantage of PCN is that it can directly monitor the urine output and also provide us samples for urinalysis from the diseased kidney. We found 20 patients with infected urine of which 10 each underwent PP and nephrectomy respectively.…”

“…The management obviated the need for nephrostomy tubes, which are bothersome for patients and have been shown to have a negative impact on quality of life. 8 We acknowledge that this is a single case and that the urine leaks tend to resolve with time, and it is certainly possible that the leak would have sealed without the placement of stents. This is, however, to our knowledge, the first case described in the literature using externalized single-J stents and represents a novel approach which can be added to the urologists armamentarium for the management of persistent vesicourethral leakage following radical prostatectomy.…”
