Abstract: The entry into elementary education - EE - represents an important transition in child development. The participants were 151 children (79 boys), longitudinally evaluated using the Social Skills Rating System, Raven's Progressive Matrices, Provinha Brazil, Child Stress Scale and the School Stressors Inventory. “…In terms of design, this study contributed to a qualitative proposal considering data obtained from trajectories of stress assessments over time, as proposed by Boardman and Alexander (2011). Thus, it advances in relation to the study of trajectories through modal trends (Correia-Zanini & Marturano, 2016). In this sense, although with similar samples, it is difficult to compare the data from this study with that of the referred studies, since the configuration of the groups meets different criteria.…”

“…On the one hand, because transition to first grade is considered a potentially stress-inducing event (Marturano, 2008), first graders may present more stress symptoms than students in more advanced grades, as found by Lipp, Arantes, Buriti, & Witzig (2002). On the other hand, in the third grade, according to recent research, children show signs of overcoming the challenges of elementary school transition, presenting the lowest levels of stress since school admission (Correia-Zanini & Marturano, 2016). In view of these findings, it is noteworthy that longer ECE attendance is still protective against stress in the third grade.…”

“…With the purpose of contributing to the discussion of the above-mentioned controversial aspects, the aim of the study was to investigate the association between duration of ECE attendance and behavior outcomes in 3rd graders concerning the academic and socioemotional domains. The interest in focusing on 3rd graders derives from research results suggesting that students at this school level overcome the transition between early childhood education and elementary education (Correia-Zanini & Marturano, 2016). The outcomes considered were academic performance, social skills, externalizing behavior problems, and stress symptoms.…”

“…De acordo com Neufeld, Corrêa e Marturano (2016), o início da adaptação escolar é um processo marcado por demandas comportamentais diversificadas, com maiores exigências cognitivas e emocionais. Durante esse período, aumentam as expectativas do meio social em relação à criança, a dependência é menos tolerada, as regras de convívio social tornam-se mais complexas e o suporte adulto fica menos disponível (Cia & Barham, 2009;Correia-Zanini & Marturano, 2016).…”
