ABSTRACT Objectives: to characterize the nurses who work in the aerospace environment and to identify their most frequent responsibilities during the pre-flight, flight, and post-flight periods. Methods: a quantitative, exploratory-descriptive research, conducted using a survey through Google forms®, from January to April of 2018, with 50 nurses from aerospace services in Brazil. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: predominance of male participants (64%), mean age of 37 years, with a mean working time in the aerospace environment of six years, in helicopter (54%), and in the southern region (42%). The main pre-flight, flight, and post-flight activities were, respectively: verification/testing of equipment functionality, nursing care for patients, and replacement of supplies and equipment. Conclusions: In the aerospace environment, nurses’ work are primarily organizational and victim care actions, during all phases of the flight.

Resumo Este trabalho avaliou a relação entre as percepções de resultados de treinamento, desenvolvimento profissional e comportamentos de cidadania organizacional, a partir de estudo em uma universidade pública. A pesquisa foi descritiva com abordagens quantitativa e qualitativa. Coletou-se dados em três etapas sucessivas: análise documental, survey com egressos (n = 231) e grupo focal com gestores (n = 11). Na análise utilizaram-se estatísticas descritivas, modelagens de equações estruturais e análise de conteúdo. Os resultados qualitativos mostraram convergências entre a opinião dos egressos e das chefias sobre o impacto do treinamento. Os testes indicaram que o impacto do treinamento explica 12% do desenvolvimento profissional. Para as dimensões de comportamentos de cidadania organizacional, o impacto do treinamento também foi significativo estatisticamente: sugestões criativas (22%), divulgação da imagem organizacional (10%) e cooperação com os colegas (3%). Esses achados trazem contribuições teóricas e implicações práticas para o treinamento de funcionários em organizações públicas.

Promoting Nurses' Self-Efficacy in Advanced Cardiac Life Support Through High-Fidelity Simulation

Background Self-efficacy in resuscitation is influenced by various educational models, including high-fidelity simulation (HFS). Method Sixty-two nurses who were enrolled in an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course using HFS were recruited for this pretest–posttest, quasi-experimental study. Self-efficacy was assessed three times—twice via the participants' self-report and once via the instructor's assessment—using the Resuscitation Self-Efficacy Scale (RSES). Results The four dimensions of self-efficacy—recognition, debriefing and recording, responding and rescuing, and reporting—improved after the HFS education ( t = 4.89, SE = 1.84, p < .001, confidence interval [−12.7, −5.33]). The instructor's scoring was higher than the participants' scoring in two of the four dimensions. The score on the ACLS written examination was positively correlated with the posttest RSES score ( r = 0.303, p = .017). Despite minimal variations between demographic subgroups, nurses who had never been involved in resuscitation exhibited a significant improvement in self-efficacy after the HFS ACLS education ( t = 4.72, SE = 2.54, p < .001, confidence interval [−17.3, −6.7]). Conclusion Self-efficacy can be a core measurable outcome that gauges nurses' clinical competency concerning HFS education for ACLS. [ J Contin Educ Nurs . 2022;53(4):185–192.]
