Objective: to investigate the trajectory and follow-up of the health of children with diabetes mellitus type 1 in regard to the attention given by the different public health services and the relationships between the services, the child and their families, from the perspective of mothers and caregivers. Method: qualitative study with inductive thematic analysis, based on the theoretical references of vulnerability and health care networks, from in-depth interviews with 56 mothers or caregivers, in two Brazilian public health services. Results: reports marked by sufferings, challenges and notes show the centrality in the disease, fragile access, little resolution, insecurity in urgent and emergency situations and superficial bond with insufficient support to the family, and fragmentation. The specialized care is characterized by trust, the bond and the efforts to prevent the use of other health services. Conclusion: families and children are exposed to vulnerable circumstances in the longitudinal follow-up, with consequent distancing of network care. Thus, they indicate the need to expand the integration of care, intersectoral actions, social participation and coordination of care networks, in search of greater access and inclusion. Therefore, there are implications with political and financial efforts to advance access to comprehensive care and reduce vulnerabilities.

Chronic illness is defined as "a disease of long duration and generally slow progression" 1 ; its impacts are long-lasting and reflect not only on the individual but also on his/her social and familiar networks 2,3 . Given that length is one of the nuclear features of chronic illness -"a condition that lasts more than three months in a year or requiring a hospital stay for more than a month" 4 -it is not surprising that there is a consensus regarding three aspects: a) it involves adjustments in many fields of life; b) it builds up over time, requiring additional corrections associated with its development; and c) it is characterised by the heterogeneity in individual development combined with the singularity in the way in which each person fits into it 5 .…”

This paper focuses on the life experiences of children with chronic disease, a group whose invisibility involves particular challenges in their relationship with professionals in important life contexts, such as family, school and hospital. The study includes two complementary phases: i) Phase 1, composed of 15 interviews with parents, education and health professionals and two focus group discussions with children, and children and their mothers; and ii) Phase 2, which included self-report questionnaires administered to parents (n = 152) and children with chronic disease (n = 176). Based on a mixed methodology, this study combines quantitative and qualitative methods assuming that plural approaches allow for a deeper understanding of the life conditions of children with chronic disease and their families. The results reinforce the reproduction of social stereotypes and the tendency to focus on the individual ability to solve problems, which still remain to be circumscribed to the people’s chronic disease sphere. Moreover, this paper reveals the central role that inclusive contexts have on children’s wellbeing.

O artigo analisa, de forma sucinta, os 10 anos da Política Nacional de Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde, considerando as informações disponibilizadas pelas equipes de Saúde da Família no Cadastro Nacional de Estabelecimentos de Saúde - SCNES, no Programa Nacional de Acesso e Qualidade da Atenção Básica - PMAQ e no Sistema de Informação da Atenção Básica - Sisab. Os resultados indicam subnotificação de registro dos serviços no CNES em comparação as informações prestadas pelas equipes de saúde no 1º e 2º ciclo do PMAQ, indicam a presença da oferta nos serviços de Atenção Básica de práticas que ainda não faziam parte da PNPIC, bem como a ampliação da oferta dessas práticas. Outro ponto importante é a diferença de oferta das PICS entre o ciclo de vida e sexo, sendo mais frequente nos adultos e no sexo feminino. Tais informações são importantes para o planejamento da implementação da PNPIC para os próximos 10 anos, tendo como perspectiva a ampliação da oferta de curso de formação dessas práticas para os profissionais da rede pública, a disponibilização de editais de pesquisa, a reformulação das normativas sobre o tema, a ampliação da oferta de plantas medicinais na RENASES, dentre outras.
