The increase in the demand for care has not led to a proportional growth in the number of primary care nurses. This imbalance is related to the decrease in the quality of care and patient safety, and also to the impact on the health of the professional group. The objective of this study is to identify relationships between overload, illness of the nurse, professional exhaustion, quality and safety in the services; and differentiate study methods and instruments for measuring the phenomena. For this, a comprehensive and structured review of the literature following the scoping review model is performed. The studies on which this review is based allow us to recognize that the scope of this phenomenon is global. The review includes 45 studies that show that there is a high pressure of care for Primary Care nursing, who suffer many alterations of their health due to burnout syndrome and that this situation contributes to the impairment of the quality of care and patient safety. However, for future lines, new evidence is needed to determine the degree of relationship between the high pressure suffered by Primary Care nursing and the attainment of health goals for professionals and patients.

Background: Burnout syndrome (BS) is a set of psychological symptoms resulting from the interaction between chronic occupational stress and individual factors. These symptoms include emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and decreased professional satisfaction. BS is manifested in a variety of professions and is prevalent in contexts in which health professionals are required to interact directly with the public. Objective: To determine the prevalence of BS among medical students at a university in Ceará State, Brazil. Methods: Of the 517 students enrolled in their first to eighth semester in 2013, 376 (72.7%) were contacted. A socio-economic evaluation questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory -Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) were administered. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 20.0. Two groups -burnout/risk and non-burnout -were compared using the chi-square and likelihood ratio tests with a significance level of 5%. Variables with p < 0.20 were included in a multivariate analysis logistical regression model. Results: Burnout was detected in 14.9% of the students, and 57.7% showed a risk of developing the syndrome. Logistic regressions showed an association between burnout and "have failed examinations" and "have considered abandoning the course", p = 0.047 and p < 0.0001, respectively. Discussion: Psychopedagogy should be implemented to address the high prevalence of burnout in medical students.

Abstract Introduction: Burnout Syndrome is a disorder, which is increasingly affecting professionals, and among many working classes, nursing professionals stood out, because they are more exposed to aggravating factors responsible for the development of this syndrome. Objective: Analyze and compare the prevalence of the Burnout Syndrome in nurses working in primary health care, as well as in tertiary health care. Patients and Method: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study was carried out in the municipality of Patos, state of Paraíba, Brazil. The sample used was non-probabilistic for convenience, deter-mined by adequacy to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with 29 primary care nurses and 49 tertiary nurses participating in the study. Data collection was performed in September 2015, using a questionnaire to identify the sample social and demographic profile and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) to measure the incidence of the aforementioned complaint. Data were stored and analyzed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and descriptive statistics were used. In addition, the reliability or internal consistency of the factors within the Burnout scale was verified through Cronbach's Alpha. Student's t test and Pearson's correlation were used as inferential tests. We considered p ≤ 0.05 as statistically significant. Results: It was verified that 64.1% of the sample presented low emotional exhaustion, 52.6% presented an average professional accomplishment, and 85.9% low depersonalization. No statistically significant differences were observed in the comparison of nursing professionals affected by Burnout in primary and tertiary health care. It was noticed that primary health care professionals are less professionally fulfilled when compared to tertiary health care professionals. Conclusion: The research results showed relevance, especially when the objective is to pay attention to the professional's health through the search of strategies in the health promotion of these professionals.
