Hemiepiphysiodesis Using Eight-Plate Versus Blount Staple to Correct Genu Valgum and Genu Varum

Abstract: Objective: Our objective is to evaluate whether the use of guided growth with eight-plates is more effective than the use of Blount staples for the correction of the idiopathic genu varum or idiopathic genu valgum. Methods: A systematic review (SR) was carried out according to the appropriate methodology for randomized clinical trials (RCTs). We searched seven databases through a previously defined methodology, and we included RCTs, regardless of language, period of publication and status of publication. R… Show more

“…It is yet questionable if intentional overcorrection is legitimate in order to retain imminent recurrence. [8,[19][20][21][22] Limitations of the present cohort study are the retrospective design and the heterogeneity of the deformities. Future studies ought to focus either on varus or valgus deformities to draw conclusions.…”

“…Nor is it exactly known what the relative weight of each variable is in influencing spontaneous deformity correction. This creates surgical decision-making dilemmas with respect to the appropriate indications for intervention by guided growth surgery, a procedure which has demonstrated safety and efficacy in the treatment of childhood angular knee deformities of various etiologies including NR [17,24]. Guided growth has also demonstrated efficacy in treatment of torsional long bone deformities in clinical [17] and experimental settings [25].…”

“…[1,2] Various hemiepiphysiodesis techniques have been developed for preventing deformity. [3,4] Blount [5] showed that the growth disturbances such as angular deformities can be controlled by using minimally invasive hemiepiphysiodesis technique with U nails. Since U nail migration and breakage Objectives: In this study, we describe a novel hemiepiphysiodesis technique to prevent implant-related perichondrial ring injury in a rabbit model.…”
