-The objective of this work was to analyze the spatial distribution and the behavior of species richness and diversity in a shrub savanna fragment, in 2003 and 2014, using ordinary kriging, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In both evaluation years, the measurements were performed in a fragment with 236.85 hectares, in which individual trees were measured and identified across 40 plots (1,000 m 2 ). Species richness was determined by the total number of species in each plot, and diversity by the Shannon diversity index. For the variogram study, spatial models were fitted and selected. Then, ordinary kriging was applied and the spatial distribution of the assessed variables was described. A strong spatial dependence was observed between species richness and diversity by the Shannon diversity index (<25% spatial dependence degree). Areas of low and high species diversity and richness were found in the shrub savanna fragment. Spatial distribution behavior shows relative stability regarding the number of species and the Shannon diversity index in the evaluated years.Index terms: geostatistics, Shannon index, variogram. Riqueza e diversidade de espécies em um fragmento de campo cerrado por meio de krigagem ordináriaResumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a distribuição espacial e o comportamento da riqueza e da diversidade de espécies em um fragmento de campo cerrado, em 2003 e 2014, por meio de krigagem ordinária, no Estado de Minas Gerais. Nos dois anos de monitoramento, as avaliações foram realizadas em um fragmento de 236,85 hectares, em que indivíduos arbóreos foram medidos e identificados em 40 parcelas (1.000 m 2 ). A riqueza foi determinada pelo número de espécies em cada parcela, e a diversidade, pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon. Para o estudo variográfico, foram realizados ajuste e seleção de modelos espaciais. Posteriormente, foi aplicada krigagem ordinária e descrita a distribuição espacial das variáveis avaliadas. Observou-se forte dependência espacial entre riqueza e diversidade de espécies pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon (<25% de grau de dependência espacial). Áreas de baixa e alta diversidade e riqueza de espécies foram identificadas no fragmento de campo cerrado. O comportamento da distribuição espacial mostra relativa estabilidade quanto ao número de espécies e ao índice de diversidade de Shannon nos anos avaliados.Termos para indexação: geoestatística, índice de Shannon, variograma.

Background: The Cerrado is the second largest biome in Brazil and the most biodiverse tropical savannah in the world and acts as a great sequester of atmospheric carbon. The lack of studies related to the quantification of its total biomass compromises the understanding of the dynamics of CO 2 in this biome. Thus, it is relevant to develop studies aiming at obtaining accurate estimates of the carbon stock in the different phytophysiognomies that make the Cerrado, to include them in appropriate forest management models. Based on the hypothesis that the amount of carbon stored can vary according to the vegetation typology and vegetation compartments, the aerial stock of dry biomass and carbon were estimated in different compartments (arboreal, herbaceous-shrub and litter). The study was developed in open Brazilian savannah and soils on the sandstone and discussed the effect of fire on this phytophysiognomy. For the arboreal compartment were adjusted mathematical models to fit the biomass equations to estimate the individual stock of the trees in this compartment. The results of the stocks were discussed considering the effect of fire on the phytophysiognomy. Results: Based on the precision and extra distribution measures, the Schumacher-Hall (non-logarithmic) equation presented better results to estimate the individual biomass and carbon stocks of the open Brazilian savannah trees. The aboveground biomass was 12.88 Mg ha −1 , corresponding to a total carbon stock of 5.91 Mg ha −1 , where most of the stocks are in the herbaceous-shrub compartment (44%). The arboreal compartment accounts for the smallest part of the stocks, followed by the litter. Conclusions: The observed values are in the interval verified for other areas of savannah studied in Brazil. The values verified for the open Brazilian savannah in sandy soils are at the lower limit of this range, due to the nutrient-poor nature of this type of soil. The distribution of stocks in the different compartments above the ground points to the fragility of this environment to the random fire effect, common in the region. That shows the need for conservation measures for vegetation maintenance and soil protection to preserve adequate nutrient cycling in the ecosystem.

RESUMOO cerrado se destaca pela sua biodiversidade, com elevado número de espécies endêmicas, tanto de fauna como de flora, o que dificulta a realização de estimativas que visam obter informações para o manejo sustentado das espécies. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a correlação entre a variável altura dominante pelo conceito de Hart e Assmann (média da altura das 100 árvores mais altas e das 100 árvores mais grossas por hectare, respectivamente) com outras variáveis dendrométricas. Objetivou-se também ajustar um modelo de volume e um de carbono para o cerrado sensu stricto, considerando a altura dominante e a área basal como variáveis independentes. Os dados utilizados foram obtidos do Inventário Florestal de Minas Gerais. Foi verificada a correlação entre as alturas dominantes pelos conceitos de Hart e Assmann com as variáveis altura total, diâmetro a 1,30 m do solo, volume, área basal, carbono, diâmetro médio quadrático e o número de árvores por hectare. Os modelos foram ajustados e avaliados pelo erro médio e pelo erro médio absoluto (EMA). Além disso, foram gerados intervalos de confiança a fim de comparar resultados obtidos por métodos tradicionais de inventários florestais e os modelos propostos neste estudo. As alturas dominantes pelos conceitos de Hart e Assmann apresentaram boa correlação com as variáveis estudadas, destacando o volume e carbono, que são as variáveis dependentes. Os modelos foram eficientes para estimar o volume e o carbono do cerrado sensu stricto. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: altura dominante, floresta nativa, Inventário Florestal de Minas Gerais.
