Supply chain risk management at seaport container terminals

Abstract: Since seaports are common and crucial links in the supply chains of several organizations, the objective of this work was to identify what risks a port can offer to the organizations in its chain and how they are treated by the port’s managers. “…Since the focus of this research is related to the analysis of the applicability of the MORT Method for risk management in supply chains (SCRM), the literature review unfolded on two fronts, one for SCRM and the other for MORT method. However, as research on SCRM is increasing (De Oliveira et al 2018;Dias et al 2019), with abundant published material and, on the contrary, as publications on the MORT method in journals are scarce, this literature review dedicates a separate subsection on the MORT method. This approach is intended to highlight the MORT method and provide readers with a better understanding of this method.…”

“…Scheduling of quay crane assignments and yard trucks to reduce congestions is of great importance for supply chain operations, as it determines to a great extent the distribution costs, as well as customer satisfaction [6]. According to Dias et al [7], the risks a port can pose to the organizations in its chain ranges from brief supply interruption to complete rupture. Due to problems with sea shipping and cargo handling at ports, there is a great risk that raw materials and finished products will be delayed in reaching customers.…”

“…Therefore, in the literature, there is an enormous amount of research related to SCRM in various areas and with various objectives. However, port risk management (PRM) has not received the same degree of attention [3]. However, port terminals and seaports are vital links in supply chain networks.…”
