Use of Virtual Questionnaire and Dissemination as a Data Collection Strategy in Scientific Studies

Abstract: This study describes the use of online questionnaires and their virtual dissemination as a data collection strategy in Germany. The online questionnaire was elaborated using a virtual platform, creating a link that was disseminated in virtual environments. Participants were 100 Germans with Spina Bifida; 149 people visited the link, 83 of them coming from virtual forums, 27 from emails, 26 from social networks, ten from the German association of spina bifida site and three from the university website. “…From this perspective, Ekman and Litton 22 and Faleiros et al 23 have mentioned that the traditional data collection strategies of research participants, such as face-to-face or telephone interviews and printed questionnaires, seldom produce results that are quick and cost-effective, in addition to not following "the technological tendency and dynamics of the population." Therefore, when 3.8 billion people or 51% of the world's population have access to the Internet 24 , researches using the virtual environment will be a trend for data collection, which is preferred by most research participants.…”

“…21 Thus, if the instrument is applied via the internet, access to it may influence both the number of respondents and the quality of responses due to lack of ability and / or difficulty in understanding the response system. 22 It is also important to mention that in the printed versions which are answered together with the interviewer, the voice intonation or the person's relationship in the respondent's care routine may influence the answers, and the longer the instrument is, the more tiresome it may be for the respondent. 3 These aspects, when not proposed in the original version, can cause important changes in the measurement.…”

“…The development of scientific research has been evidenced based on a range of innovative possibilities in methodological terms, and the option for the researcher to choose among these depending on their study object, is integral to this great intellectual work. 1 In this context, studies demonstrating successful experiences in the use of widely varying methodological frameworks have assisted researchers in their choices, contributing to the quality of their production, with a view to greater consistency in the method adopted in relation to the research problem and the area investigated. Accordingly, the present study aims to assist researchers in this process of choice, and presents the Delphi method as one option as a methodological framework for research in nursing.…”
