Family Expectations About a Psychiatric Inpatient Unit

Abstract: We aimed to understand the expectations of families about a Psychiatric Inpatient Unit in the perspective of Alfred Schutz's phenomenological sociology. This is a qualitative and phenomenological research, with families of patients at a psychiatric inpatient unit of a university hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. “…The analysis of the information took place given Alfred Schutz's framework of phenomenological sociology. To unveil the essence of the phenomenon, the following steps were followed (6) : Attentive reading of the speeches in order to capture the experienced situation and the reasons for of the subjects; identification of concrete categories that house the acts of the subjects; rereading of the speeches in order to select and group excerpts that contained similar significant aspects of the subjects' actions.
