Abstract: Rapid prototyping (RP) is an innovative technology that allows one to obtain a prototype of a mold quickly and accurately from a virtual model. This study aimed to establish the use of photogrammetry and 3D prototyping for the production of bone biomodels of the canine species for training in orthopedic techniques in veterinary medicine. Virtual bio-modelling was performed by the photogrammetry technique with commercial anatomical pieces, and physical biomodelling was performed by 3D printing. Osteotomies were… Show more

“…More recently, there has been a resurgence of interest in higher‐technology models to teach orthopedic surgery. Lima et al have described the use of photogrammetry, pictures taken at different angles to render a computed image, and three‐dimensional printing to reproduce synthetic bones for the practice of orthopedic techniques such as the placement of cerclage wires and bone plates and screws 58 . Lima et al also described the use of three‐dimentional scanning to reproduce mandibular fractures, which could be used to teach students their repair 59 .…”
