As espécies do gênero

“…The Ipomoea seeds were purchased from Agrocosmos Ag Company (São Paulo, Brazil) and multiplied on the field in the years prior to the use. The dormancy of Ipomoea grandifolia seeds was overcome according to the method described by Pazuch et al (2015). Afterwards, the Ipomoea seeds were sown manually on the field using 3 times the amount of seed needed for each density and excess seedlings were removed approximately 10 days after their emergence.…”

“…Dormancy is a phenomenon in which seeds do not germinate, even though they are viable and have all favorable environmental conditions to begin the germination process (Azania et al, 2009;Gama et al, 2011). This phenomenon assures the survival of the species under adverse conditions after the maturation and dispersion of the seeds, allowing the germination to occur with time (Pazuch et al, 2015). Several causes may be related to dormancy, such as tegument impermeability, physiological immaturity of the embryo, presence of inhibiting substances, dormant embryo, in addition to the combination of such factors.…”

The same species may present more than one cause for its dormancy (Vivian et al, 2008;Pazuch et al, 2015).…”

“…Seeds underwent treatments to overcome dormancy, with hot water at 98 o C for I. grandifolia biotypes and with concentrated sulphuric acid (98%) for I. purpurea and I. indivisa ones (Pazuch et al, 2015); after that, five seeds were planted per each biotype, leaving three plants per pot after thinning. The plants remained in a greenhouse with temperature control system (10 o C minimum and 31 o C maximum), cooling and automatic irrigation, with approximately 3 mm day -1 drip irrigation, until they presented two pairs of real leaves; subsequently, the pots were transferred to the fenced field area, containing a sprinkle irrigation system.…”
