Abstract: Low-fluoride (F) dentifrices (<600 µg F/g) are widely available worldwide, but evidence to recommend the use of such dentifrices, with either regular or improved formulations, is still lacking. “…A literatura é unânime em afirmar que, para que o creme dental fluoretado consiga agir no processo dinâmico de desmineralização e remineralização das estruturas dentárias, em favor do ganho de minerais (e assim exercer o seu efeito anticárie), é preciso que este tenha uma concentração mínima de 1.000 ppm F, assim como o seu uso deve ser de pelo menos duas vezes ao dia, para crianças ou adultos 8,16,21 . Um estudo in vitro realizado em esmalte bovino 17 exemplifica esta questão, em que foi avaliada a capacidade dos dentifrícios fluoretados e não fluoretados de interferir no processo de desmineralização e remi-neralização da superfície dentária.
