Abstract: Background: Stapled hemorrhoidopexy is a common treatment for grade 3 hemorrhoids. Patients with conditions that increase the risk of bleeding, as cardiac stents usage with clopidogrel bissulfate and liver cirrhosis, should receive an extra care in surgical procedures due to the high risk of bleeding. For this reason and for patients with third degree hemorrhoids we propose the use of stapled hemorrhoidopexy followed by the use of biological glue. Aim: Assess surgical outcomes in patients with hemorrhoids and … Show more

“…Estimated overall complication rates of stapled haemorrhoidopexy range from 3.3 up to 81%, with 5 mortalities documented (Porrett et al, 2015). Interestingly, very low rates of bleeding were demonstrated in the postoperative period after stapled haemorrhoidopexy followed by the use of biological glue in patients with cardiac stents and risk of bleeding (Pirolla et al, 2017). Simultaneously, stapled haemorrhoidopexy has been recognised as a technique providing higher rates of recurrence (Araujo et al, 2016;Lin et al, 2019).…”

“…The few studies that have sought to address the issue are either small or include a heterogenous study cohort not specific to hemorrhoidectomies, preventing an accurate quantification of the bleeding risk in anticoagulated patients. 6,8,9 Alongside an aging population, it is estimated that the incidence of atrial fibrillation will more than double in the next 30 years with the concomitant increase in use of anticoagulation that has already been noted. 10,11 In order to adequately counsel patients on the bleeding risk after hemorrhoidectomy in the setting of anticoagulation or antiplatelet medication use, additional data is needed on the association of these medications and delayed bleeding.…”
