It is important to prioritize intersectoral action at schools to prevent the use of alcohol and other drugs. This strategic act should be organized with multidisciplinary learning characteristics and with the involvement of different stakeholders. The aim of a recent scoping review was to identify the factors that benefit and hinder intersectoral actions at school resulting from the elaboration of policies to prevent drug use. It seems like the research study was a scoping review that used the P-population, C-context, and C-concept structure. The study searched for information in various databases like Embase, Proquest, Lilacs, Medline via Pubmed, PsycInfo, WHO-Iris, and PAHO-Iris on April 17, 2023. According to the results, there were 5 studies that were eligible to answer the research question. One of the advantages of intersectoral actions is the role of schools in creating a support network with different social actors, particularly with family involvement. On the other hand, one of the challenges is inconsistencies in legal regulations, which do not provide enough guidance to schools on how to prevent alcohol and drug use. While public and private schools may be affected differently by social and economic factors, it is essential to invest in developing policies that focus on drug prevention for children and adolescents who are learning in schools.

Evaluation of frameworks demonstrating the role of private sector in non-communicable disease management and control: a systematic review and thematic synthesis

ObjectivesConduct a systematic review of existing frameworks to understand the for-profit private sector’s roles in non-communicable disease (NCD) control and management. Control includes population-level control measures that prevent NCDs and mitigate the magnitude of the NCD pandemic, and management includes treatment and management of NCDs. The for-profit private sector was defined as any private entities that make profit from their activities (ie, pharmaceutical companies, unhealthy commodity industries, distinct from not-for-profit trusts or charitable organisations).DesignA systematic review and inductive thematic synthesis was performed. Comprehensive searches of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Business Source Premier and Proquest/ABI Inform were conducted on 15 January 2021. Grey literature searches were conducted on 2 February 2021 using the websites of 24 relevant organisations. Searches were filtered to only include articles published from the year 2000 onwards, in English. Articles that included frameworks, models or theories and the for-profit private sector’s role in NCD control and management were included. Two reviewers performed the screening, data extraction and quality assessment. Quality was assessed using the tool developed by Hawkeret alfor qualitative studies.SettingThe for-profit private sector.ResultsThere were 2148 articles initially identified. Following removal of duplicates, 1383 articles remained, and 174 articles underwent full-text screening. Thirty-one articles were included and used to develop a framework including six themes that outlined the roles that the for-profit private sector plays in NCD management and control. The themes that emerged included healthcare provision, innovation, knowledge educator, investment and financing, public–private partnerships, and governance and policy.ConclusionThis study provides an updated insight on literature that explores the role of the private sector in controlling and monitoring NCDs. The findings suggest that the private sector could contribute, through various functions, to effectively manage and control NCDs globally.

Parcerias Público-Privadas (PPP´s) são um mecanismo de incentivo à inserção do capital privado no conjunto de fontes, o qual pode financiar o setor de infraestrutura da administração pública. Por meio da análise dos Planos Estaduais de PPP´s, publicados pelo Estado de Mato Grosso Sul (MS), analisou-se a evolução da tendência dos projetos publicados, demonstrando o perfil estratégico adotado pelo MS e sua efetiva implementação. Para este artigo, utilizou-se da pesquisa documental, mediante as publicações do Diário Oficial do Estado, Diário Oficial da União e artigos sobre o tema. Foi possível analisar o interesse de MS na utilização desse mecanismo. Desde o marco regulatório brasileiro, em 2004, o estado tem elaborado seu Plano Estadual de PPP regularmente, com exceção de apenas 2 (dois), em um intervalo de 8 (oito) anos, entre 2014 e 2022. A efetividade em 53,84% de realização dos projetos indica a concretização da modernização buscada para o MS.
