Pressures from anthropogenic disturbances have triggered a wealth of studies focusing on the assessment and mitigation of the negative impacts of these disturbances on inter and intraspecific ecological interactions, including bats and bat flies in their roosts. The heterogeneity of research methods employed for these studies and the scientific imbalance between countries may constrain advances and the consolidation of the knowledge on this subject. We reviewed the literature regarding bat and bat-ectoparasite interactions in roosts assessing global research trends and patterns of author collaborative work to be able to identify key questions for future studies and potential initiatives to improve the knowledge on this subject. Current information available has mostly come from the Americas and is predominantly focused on the recognition and description of parasite-host interactions between bats and bat flies. Our findings suggest the value of increasing collaboration for future research, as several countries with largely diverse environments and high organismal richness are disconnected from the countries that produce the most publications in this area, and/or have low records of publications. These regions are in the Global South, mostly in South American and African countries. We suggest that more collaborative networks may increase scientific production in the area, and that investing in local research development and enhancing partnerships for publications may strengthen the field. These research programs and collaborations are key for the development of conservation strategies for bats and bat flies, for their roosts, and for understanding bat and bat-ectoparasite interactions. “…Using bibliometrics to analyze papers published between 2011 and 2016, analysts identified productivity gains regarding the Brazilian research and science policy: up to the date of the report, Brazil was the 13th largest world producer of research publications and its production grew annually. In fact, official data from important research funding sources in Brazil (CAPES, Brazilian National Research Council -CNPq, Brazilian Funding Authority for Studies and Projects -FINEP, and the States Research Foundations) show a steady increase in investment from 2001 to 2014 30,31 . Assuming that scientific growth may be linked to the corresponding financing, the austerity measures taken after 2015 will presumably have an impact on the trends reported here.…”

Trends in general and public health scientific output of authors affiliated to Brazilian institutions among high-impact and SciELO journals: 1995-2019

This study aimed to assess the percentage of articles with authors affiliated to Brazilian institutions in high-impact journals and SciELO journals and to evaluate trends in 5-year citations according to the author's affiliation and journal category. Bibliometric data were obtained using Scopus database from 1995 to 2019. Publications were selected from four journal categories: High-impact General Health (HGH), High-impact Public Health (HPH), SciELO General Health (SGH) and SciELO Public Health (SPH). The number of citations that were received five years after publication and the percentage of publications with any author affiliated to Brazil were calculated by each year. The same 146 journals were followed. There was a significant increase in percentage of articles with authors affiliated to Brazilian institutions in all sets of journals. Among HGH, there was an increasing from 0.3% to 1.5% between 1995-2019, for HPH from 1% to 3%, for SGH from 49.7% to 55.4%, and for SPH from 47.4% to 71.9%. There was a significant (p < 0.01) increase in the mean of 5-year citations in all groups and Brazilian affiliated articles increased more than average. For each 10 years, average HGH articles increased 11.9 citations and Brazilian affiliated articles 32.0 citations. The results suggest that the presence of Brazilian science is increasing, and the scientific impact has increased more than average.

After the economic crisis of 2015, there was a cut in funding for research grants and scholarships in virtually all federal and state research promotion agencies, making it difficult to produce and filter knowledge (46) . This production of knowledge and the return of research results to society are paramount for promoting, protecting and recovering health.…”

RESUMO Objetivo: Caracterizar a produção científica disponível na literatura sobre a construção de subconjuntos terminológicos da CIPE® com ênfase na clientela e/ou prioridade de saúde a quem se destinam os subconjuntos, o referencial teórico utilizado e o processo de validação dos enunciados construídos. Método: Revisão integrativa da literatura com abordagem bibliométrica de publicações entre 2008 e 2017. Resultados: Foram incluídas para análise 35 publicações. A maioria dos estudos estava vinculada a programas de pós-graduação de universidades do Nordeste brasileiro. Quanto à clientela atendida, houve uma tendência para o cuidado do paciente oncológico, do idoso e da criança/adolescente. Quanto ao referencial teórico para a construção do subconjunto, houve uma tendência para o uso do modelo das Necessidades Humanas Básicas. O processo de validação não foi descrito em todos os estudos. Conclusão: Reforça-se a importância da construção de subconjuntos terminológicos da CIPE®, voltados às clientelas prioritárias de saúde, para potencializar o uso dessa terminologia. O percurso metodológico deve ser pautado nas metodologias específicas, e o processo de construção deve ser paralelo ao de validação.
