Saúde de testemunhas protegidas na crise atual: um direito ameaçado Abstract:The article analyses the access to health for victims and witnesses of crimes and sets out the budgetary cuts on the protection programme during the current crisis. Data was collected from technical reports, minutes of meetings and other documents of the Programme's confidential archives, to which, after the research proposal was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee, we have been granted access by its executive coordinators. The accountable body has also been consulted under the Access to Information Act. We approach health from the concept of human needs, the negligence of which can lead to individuals having to live in sub-human conditions. We have identified that access to public health for the protected individuals is difficult, further aggravated by the ongoing counter-reforms, with a consequent reduction in the Programme's funds and the erosion of the State's resopnsibility in the carrying out of protection policies.
