Objective: To characterize the profile of suicide attempts treated at an emergency department in the municipality of Arapiraca, state of Alagoas, Brazil, from 2009 to 2012. Methods: We analyzed all emergency department records containing a diagnosis of suicide attempt. Data were evaluated using Student's t test and Pearson's chi-square test. Significance was accepted at po0.05. Results: We identified 2,142 cases. Suicide attempts were more frequent among women and young adults, but deaths were more frequent among men. Suicide attempts were most frequent among patients aged 10 to 39 years (81.1%). Drug intoxication (65.0%) and non-drug poisoning (16.2%) were significantly more prevalent than other methods of suicide. The month of April (10.6%) accounted for the greatest number of cases, and July had the smallest number (5.5%). Suicide attempts were most prevalent in spring (28.3%), on Sundays (18.4%) and Saturdays (16.8%), and from 12:00 p.m. to 5:59 p.m. Conclusion: Suicide prevention measures should focus on young women. Further research into the care provided to suicide attempters and better monitoring of the sale and use of medicines and poisons could be useful.

Objective: In this perspective, the present research aims to describe the reports of self-injury and suicide attempt among the elderly population living in the city of São Paulo. Methods: This is a descriptive, quantitative approach based on Violence and Accidents Surveillance Information System (SIVVA) of the city of São Paulo. In the selection of notifications, it was included the ones related to self-injury and attempted suicide against men and women, with age group between 60 and over, from January to December 2014 in the city of São Paulo, Southeastern Region of Brazil. Results: During 2014, 93 cases of self-injury and attempted suicide were reported among elderly people living in the city of São Paulo. The main instruments used by the elderly population in the analyzed period were poisoning (41.9%), other means (34.4%), cold weapon (15.1%), high precipitation places (4.3%), hanging or suffocation (3.2%), and firearm (1.1%). Conclusion: From the results of this study it was possible to characterize some specific aspects related to self-injury and suicide attempt among elderly in the evaluated population. Therefore, developing a strategy to promote effective prevention actions and offer specialized services to most risk groups (brown races, people with lower levels of education, and males). RESUMOObjetivo: Nesta perspectiva, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo descrever os casos de autoagressão e tentativa de suicídio entre a população idosa residente na cidade de São Paulo. Métodos: Esta é uma abordagem descritiva e quantitativa baseada no Sistema de Informação para Vigilância de Violências e Acidentes (SIVVA) da cidade de São Paulo. Na seleção das notificações, foram incluídos os relacionados à autoagressão e à tentativa de suicídio contra homens e mulheres, com faixa etária entre 60 e mais, de janeiro a dezembro de 2014 na cidade de São Paulo, Região Sudeste do Brasil. Resultados: Durante o ano de 2014, 93 casos de autolesão e tentativa de suicídio foram notificados em pessoas idosas residentes na cidade de São Paulo. Os principais instrumentos utilizados pela população idosa no período analisado foram envenenamentos (41,9%), outros meios (34,4%), arma branca (15,1%), locais de alta precipitação (4,3%), suspensão ou sufocação (3,2%) e arma de fogo (1,1%). Conclusão:Com os resultados deste estudo, foi possível caracterizar alguns aspectos específicos relacionados a autoagressão e tentativa de suicídio entre os idosos na população estudada. Portanto, faz-se necessário desenvolver uma estratégia para promover ações de prevenção eficazes e oferecer serviços especializados para a maioria dos grupos de risco (raça parda, pessoas com níveis mais baixos de educação e homens). RESUMO:O suicídio é compreendido como um ato multidimensional, que resulta de uma interação complexa entre diversos fatores. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo objetivou conhecer em que medida a satisfação com a vida, a saúde geral (ansiedade e depressão) e a religiosidade podem influenciar na ideação suicida. Especificamente, pretendeu-se averiguar a relação existente entre esses fatores e investigar o poder preditivo dessas variáveis no comportamento suicida. Para tanto, contou-se com 257 pessoas com idades variando entre 18 e 56 anos (M = 22,9; DP = 6,76), a maioria solteira (91,8%), do sexo feminino (62,6%), de religião Católica (50,6%). Essa foi uma amostra de conveniência. Os participantes foram solicitados a responder a um protocolo composto por questões de caráter sociobiodemográficas e cinco instrumentos: (1) Questionário de Saúde Geral de Goldberg; (2) Escala de Satisfação com a Vida; (3) Escala de Práticas Religiosas; (4) Escala de Crenças Religiosas; (5) Escala MultiAtitudinal de Tendência ao Suicídio (EMTAS). Verificaram-se correlações significativas entre os domínios da EMTAS com as variáveis avaliadas no presente estudo. Quanto ao poder preditivo, foi possível comprovar que as alterações nos principais domínios da ideação suicida foram explicadas satisfatoriamente pela satisfação com a vida, pela depressão e pelo compromisso religioso. Assim, conclui-se que os objetivos propostos foram alcançados e contribui para medidas que podem ajudar na identificação de pacientes em risco, tais como a construção de novas propostas de intervenções, a prevenção do comportamento suicida e a promoção da saúde.
