A Patient-Reported Outcome (PRO) measure titled Cuestionario para la Evaluación de la Adhesión al Tratamiento Antiretroviral (acronym CEAT-VIH) is currently available in paper-and-pencil and digital (online assessment) formats. Due to the advantages of online assessment, the main objective of this work was to evaluate psychometric properties of the online version, in an international sample, to accumulate evidence of its validity and provide score norms for the questionnaire. A psychometric study was performed with an international sample of 1,470 participants, from 30 countries, to accumulate evidence of CEAT-VIH validity regarding internal structure and related external criterion (e.g., viral load, number of pills, and AIDSrelated symptoms). Descriptive statistics and normative data for scores are also presented. The majority of participants were men (72.4%), aged 15 to 78 years old (M = 39.3, SD = 12.6). A unidimensional model with five facets occurred as the observed variables converged, which presented a good model fit (comparative fit index [CFI] = 1.000; Tucker-Lewis index [TLI] = 0.999; standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0.027; and root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] [90% confidence interval, CI] = 0.009 [0.000, 0.038], p = .995). There was a weak invariance for the CEAT-VIH structure for language versions and countries. Cronbach's alpha values for the instrument (17 items) were acceptable across language versions (.88-.96). Evidence of validity related to external criteria was achieved by associations (e.g., Spearman and Mann-Whitney) between CEAT-VIH scores and relevant clinical (e.g., CD4+ cells, viral load, number of pills, and AIDSrelated symptoms) and sociodemographic (e.g., gender, age, employment status, education level, place of residence, and participation at local AIDS association) variables. In conclusion, the overall data on the evaluated psychometric properties allow recommendation of the use of this instrument in research and applied settings.

ABSTRACT:The aim of this study was to evaluate the social support for people with AIDS. It was a cross-sectional study, with 215 outpatients at a University Hospital in Northeastern Brazil. Data were collected from August to December 2012, through interviews, using a Socio-demographic and Clinical Form and a Social Support Scale for People Living with HIV/AIDS. Statistical Package for the Social Science was used for data analysis. Results showed that average scores of social emotional and instrumental support were satisfactory and not influenced by sex (p=0.954; p=0.508), education (p=0.756; p=0.194), marital status (p=0.076; p=0.446) and length of antiretroviral therapy (p=0.480; p=0.120). People diagnosed for less than three years had more instrumental support (p=0.048) than those diagnosed over three years (p=0.370). Neighbors, employers and health professionals provided less support. The conclusion was that people with AIDS have satisfactory social support, especially from friends and family not living in the same household. Los datos recolectados entre agosto y diciembre de 2012, a través de entrevistas utilizando el formulario sociodemográfico y clínico y la Escala de Apoyo Social para las Personas que Viven con VIH/SIDA. El Statistical Package for the Social Science fue utilizado para análisis de datos. Los resultados evidenciaron que las puntuaciones medias de apoyo social emocionales e instrumentales fueron satisfactorios, y no influenciados por el sexo (p=0,954; p=0,508), educación (p=0,756; p=0,194), estado civil (p=0,076; p=0,446) y tiempo de terapia antirretroviral (p=0,480; p=0,120). Las personas diagnosticadas en menos de tres años tenían más apoyo instrumental (p=0,048) que los diagnosticados hace más de tres años (p=0,370). Los vecinos, jefe y profesionales de salud proporcionaban menos apoyo. Se concluyó que personas con SIDA tienen un apoyo social satisfactorio, principalmente por parte de amigos y familiares que no viven en el mismo hogar.DESCRIPTORES: Síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida. RESUMOObjetivo: Avaliar a influência da situação conjugal no suporte social percebido por pessoas infectadas pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana (HIV). Método: Estudo de delineamento transversal, realizado com 179 participantes. Para coleta de dados, utilizou-se a Escala de Suporte Social para pessoas infectadas pelo HIV. Como variável dependente, o suporte social percebido, e como variáveis independentes, as características sociais, demográficas e clínicas. Realizada análise descritiva das variáveis, Teste de Jonckheere-Terpstra e regressão logística. Resultados: Conviver com esposo(a) ou companheiro(a) é fator de proteção quando comparado a ser solteiro(a) ou separado(a), divorciado(a) ou viúvo(a), de forma que a chance de proteção é de 8,84 vezes (IC: 3,43 -14,25) para o suporte social geral, 5,54 vezes (IC: 2,54 -8,54) para suporte social emocional, e 4,31 vezes (IC: 0,97 -7,65) para suporte social instrumental. Conclusão: Ter companheiro(a) é fator de proteção para manutenção do suporte social. Essa avaliação contribui para identificar dificuldades na adesão ao tratamento antirretroviral e elaborar estratégias de enfrentamento da doença e manutenção de comportamentos favoráveis à adesão. Results: Living with a spouse or partner is a protective factor when compared to being single or separated, divorced or widowed, so the chance of protection is 8, 84 times (CI: 3.43 -14.25) for general social support, 5.54 (CI: 2.54 -8.54) times higher for social emotional support, and 4.31 (CI: 0, 97 -7.65) times greater for social instrumental support. Conclusion: Having a partner is a protective factor for maintaining social support. This evaluation contributes to identify difficulties in adherence to antiretroviral treatment and to develop coping strategies and maintenance of adherence behaviors.
