Brazil is the second nation in absolute number of new cases of leprosy in the world. The country presents many regions highly endemic to the disease, as is the case of the Goiás. The present study aims to analyze the temporal trends of leprosy indicators in Goiás between 2006 and 2015. This study showed a significant trend of decline for the coefficient of detection. Although the central-western region of the state presented the highest absolute number of cases, the Northeast of the state presents the worst epidemiological situation, with an increase in the number of cases of patients with physical disabilities and those under 14 years of age. The data also showed that there is an increase in the cases of patients with physical deformities in almost all macroregions of the state, indicative of late diagnosis. It is very important that there is a more effective and continuous training of the health professionals of the non-centralized units, for a real control of leprosy as a public health problem in the state. In addition, special attention should be given to the poorer regions of the state, which have shown a tendency to increase the diagnosis of patients younger than 14 years and with physical disabilities caused by leprosy.

Leprosy is a chronic bacterial granulomatous disease that affects skin and peripheral nerves and shows slow progression. This study was to trace the epidemiological and clinical profile of leprosy among cases reported in the Information System for Notifiable Diseases in Anápolis, Goiás, Central-West region of Brazil. This is an epidemiological, descriptive and a cross-sectional study. Between January 2011 and December 2016, assistance was provided to 484 patients with leprosy. Among the patients, 59.5% male and the most prevalent age group was between 20-40 years old. Brown population in 47.3% of the cases and 51.7% of the patients completed elementary education. The majority of the cases were multibacillary and Virchowian clinical forms were prevalent, with zero degree of disability detected in 79.56% of the patients. There was no death due to leprosy during the study period. The epidemiological data indicates that a greater integration between the population and primary care must be encouraged, a crucial step for health education and strategies in order to combat the disease.

Objectives:Most of the oral infections with odontogenic origin are very common and can be treated by tooth extraction, endodontic therapy, or surgical treatment. Other infectious lesions are the manifestations of systemic diseases such as tuberculosis and syphilis. Skin and underlying subcutaneous tissue, fascia, or muscle is also involved with infectious diseases which range from superficial epidermal infections to very serious necrotizing fasciitis.Materials and Methods:An extensive literature in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus search was performed from 1980 to 2017. All related articles were analyzed.Results:Most oral infections have odontogenic origin. Skin and the underlying subcutaneous tissue, fascia, or muscles are also involved with infectious diseases which range from superficial epidermal infections to very serious necrotizing fasciitis.Conclusions:These facts prove that the interaction between the oral cavity, face skin, and the other organs can risk the people's life. The establishment of a correct diagnosis and recognition of clinical findings are the crucial steps to support and improve professional orofacial health status.
