Antifungal susceptibility and distribution of Candida spp. isolates from the University Hospital in the municipality of Dourados, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

Abstract: Introduction: Hospital infections caused by Candida spp. are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, particularly those that are critically ill or immunocompromised. In this study, the distributio n of Candida species in isolates from the University Hospital of the Federal University at Grande Dourados and their in vitro susceptibility to antifungal drugs were analyzed. Methods: Yeasts were phenotypically identifi ed using classical methodologies. Antifungal susceptibility tests to… Show more

“…Decreased susceptibility to FLCZ was mainly seen against C. glabrata isolated from patients with blood stream infections, with a dose-dependent susceptibility rate of 76.5%, while the susceptibility rates of FLCZ were 100% for C. albicans and C. parapsilosis [19]. Similar results were also found for systemic candidiasis [18,20,23]. Decreases in the susceptibility of NCAC, especially of C. glabrata , resulted from resistance to FLCZ, leading to oropharyngeal Candida infections, which are more severe and more difficult to treat in HIV-infected and cancer patients [30].…”
