Abstract: Introduction: Torque teno virus (TTV) and SEN virus are circular single-stranded DNA viruses that cause blood-borne infections. The SEN virus (SEN-V) was originally detected in the serum of an injection drug user infected with human immunodefi ciency virus (HIV). Recently TTV was discovered as a potential causative agent of non-A-E hepatitis. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of the SEN-V-D/H and TTV in HIV patients and healthy blood donors in Iran. Methods: One hundred and fi fty HIV pat… Show more

“…Human anellovirus infections are typically detected by PCR targeting conserved regions in 3′-UTR, ORF1 and ORF2 of the viral DNA genomes [33,39,52,53]. Because of the extensive genetic variability among human anelloviruses the efficiency of PCR based methods across different genera and species is uncertain.…”

“…HIV-infected individuals showed higher detection rate and estimated titer of human anelloviruses than healthy blood donors [3335]. Anellovirus loads were higher in HIV-infected individuals with low versus high CD4+ T-cell counts [31,3638].…”

“…A small number of studies have examined the prevalence and genetic diversity of TTV in human and nonhuman Middle Eastern populations [10,12,[23][24][25]. One of these studies reported a prevalence of 90% (27/30) among Jordanian human subjects [10].…”

“…[7] SENV is non-enveloped, round, icosahedral symmetry with a single-stranded DNA genome. [8] The genome is circular, single-stranded of about 1.8-3.8 kb. SENV and Torque Teno Virus show a similar genomic organization; the nucleotide sequence had identified two dominant, partially overlapping open reading frames (ORFs), ORF1, and ORF2.…”
