Strategies and competences of nurses in men’s health care: an integrative review

Objectives: to synthesize scientific evidence on nurses’ strategies and competencies in men’s health care. Methods: an integrative review carried out in seven databases, with a time frame from 2009 to 2019, using the descriptors “men’s health”, “professional competence”, “nursing”, “nursing care” and “male” in Portuguese and in English. Results: ten articles were selected, in which it was demonstrated that nursing professionals develop their professional practices with regard to men’s health care, in convergence with the general skills of the profession. The most used are health care; decision-making; Communication; administration; management; continuing education and leadership, consecutively. Final Considerations: professionals’ efforts to strengthen health actions, aimed at male needs, in accordance with the general skills of the profession and the principles and guidelines of the Brazilian National Policy for Comprehensive Care to Men’s Health.

Objetivo: Conhecer as demandas do campo da saúde sexual de homens através do relato dos profissionais de saúde da Atenção Primária e identificar que ações são realizadas e direcionadas aos homens para atender suas demandas. Material e Método: Pesquisa descritiva com abordagem qualitativa cuja produção dos dados foi realizada com base em um roteiro semiestruturado aplicado a 17 profissionais referente à caracterização dos entrevistados, questões de conhecimentos gerais sobre saúde sexual e questões específicas sobre as demandas no campo da sexualidade dos homens dentro da faixa etária de 25 a 59 anos. O estudo foi realizado na Unidade de Estratégia Saúde da Família localizada na zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro, durante o período de Dezembro de 2016 a Janeiro de 2017. Utilizou-se a técnica de amostragem por saturação teórica para definir o total de entrevistados. Para o tratamento dos dados foi utilizada a análise de conteúdo por meio da técnica temática categorial, sistematizada pelo modelo de Oliveira. Resultados: As principais demandas dos homens referemse ao tratamento de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST), impotência e a exames/procedimentos. As ações individuais constituem-se principalmente de consultas, orientações e solicitação de exames. Já em ações coletivas, a maioria é voltada para grupos que não são fechados aos homens. Conclusão: Por fim, a abordagem à sexualidade masculina ainda está reduzida aos termos das IST, medicalização e da ereção, sendo a sexualidade vista num padrão biomédico. Objective: to describe the experience of living with the elderly with a look at racial issues and healthy aging. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study, a type of experience report, performed in a USF, from November 2017 to March 2018. A field diary was constructed through the meetings. Results: in the contact with the elderly, the fragilities and the difficulties of each one in carrying out the daily activities and the self-care are perceived. It is inferred that most of the participants underwent medical treatment of chronic diseases. The participation of the elderly in the discussions about racial issues and the needs aroused by them to continue aging with health becomes relevant. Conclusion: the intervention project made it possible for all those involved in the activities to understand the aging process and the demands demanded in this phase, both in the physical aspect and in the psychic and social aspects of the elderly, awakening in each member of the multiprofessional team, the interest in contributing and being able to welcome this clientele.
