Abstract: Background Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a major source of nutrition globally, but yields can be seriously compromised by water limitation. Redistribution of growth between shoots and roots is a common response to drought, promoting plant survival, but reducing yield. Gibberellins (GAs) are necessary for shoot and root elongation, but roots maintain growth at lower GA concentrations compared with shoots, making GA a suitable hormone for mediating this growth redistribution. In this study, … Show more

“…In tomatoes, water deficiency repressed the expression levels of the GA20ox1 gene, afterward declining the bioactive of GAs level (Shohat et al, 2021). TaGA20ox1 was downregulated in leaf tissues of wheat seedlings in response to drought stress (Ptoskova et al, 2022). Our results revealed that droughtinduced GA expression in guard cells contributes to stomatal closure at the early stage of soil dehydration (Figure 11), while inhibition of the synthesis of GA in leaves disrupts the growth of the canopy and limits the transpiration area (Shohat et al, 2021).…”

“…A reduction of such cytokinins is associated with plant aging in conifers ( Valdés, Fernández & Centeno, 2003 ). GA is necessary for shoot and root elongation and generally associated with plant senescence ( Ptošková et al, 2022 ). ABA regulates various developmental processes and serves as an inducer to trigger plant senescence ( Lim, Kim & Nam, 2007 ; Asad et al, 2019 ).…”

“…The GA concentration is usually low in roots ( Figs. 4E and 4F ), however, such a low concentration can maintain root growth ( Ptošková et al, 2022 ). A reduction of GA could decrease the capacity of growth as plants age ( Colebrook et al, 2014 ).…”

“…Gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to determine the contents of auxin (IAA) and ABA in a previous study (Zörb et al, 2013). The samples were freeze-dried and ground to a powder to determine the gibberellin (GA 3 ) content by GC-MS following the method of a previous study (Ptošková et al, 2022).…”
