Abstract: OBJECTIVE to evaluate whether advanced maternal age (AMA) is associated with prelabor cesarean section and to identify the factors associated with prelabor cesarean section in AMA women, according to the mode of type of labor financing (private or public). METHODS Based on the Birth in Brazil survey, the research was conducted on representative sample of mothers for the country (Brazil), regions, type of hospital and location (capital or not), in 2011/2012. This study included 15,071 women from two age groups:… Show more

“…According to Ozdemirci's study, parity increased the chance of placenta previa (20). Consistent with our findings, another study found that women with a history of numerous cesarean procedures had a higher likelihood of placental implantation (21). Our study further proved that the interaction between age and parity had a negative influence placental disease, possibly due to the reduced physiological function of the placenta in women who are older and have more parities and due to the history of poor childbirth in some women, such as multiple miscarriages and short intervals between cesarean sections, which can lead to adverse outcomes such as placenta previa and placental implantation.…”

“…Table 1 shows the methodological characteristics and the main results of the included articles, organized in chronological order according to the date of publication. Thirteen studies assessed maternal age, of these, eleven [11][12][13][14][17][18][19][21][22][23][24] found an association of maternal age (≥35 years) with the performance of cesarean section and two 15,16 found no such association.…”

“…Unfortunately, the number of women with AMA has increased in low-, middle-, and even high-income countries, compared to the previous years (Laopaiboon et al, 2014). It was found that 13,6% out of 15,071 women with AMA gave birth in public while 28,4% out of 15,071 women who gave birth in private practice were AMA (Martinelli et al, 2021).…”

“…These happened due to many reasons such as fetal distress, preeclampsia, and dystocia (Djusad et al, 2021). It is said that AMA was an independent risk factor for prelabor cesarean section in private and public services (Martinelli et al, 2021). Some negative maternal and perinatal outcomes that have been linked with AMA include preeclampsia, congenital anomalies, gestational diabetes, placental abruption, placenta previa, preterm birth, perinatal mortality, and low birth weight (Ludford et al, 2012;Wu et al, 2019;Martinelli et al, 2018).…”
