Abstract: Natural fibre based composites are under intensive study due to their ecofriendly nature and peculiar properties. The advantage of natural fibres is their continuous supply, easy and safe handling, and biodegradable nature. Although natural fibres exhibit admirable physical and mechanical properties, it varies with the plant source, species, geography, and so forth. Pineapple leave fibre (PALF) is one of the abundantly available wastes materials of Malaysia and has not been studied yet as it is required. A det… Show more

“…Most of the developing countries trade lignocellulosic fibers for improving economic condition of poor farmers as much as country support. Recently polymer composites containing cellulosic fibers are under focus in literature as well as industries [2]. The olive oil extraction processes generates huge amounts of solid lignocellulosic waste, representing 30-35% by weight of the olive fruit.…”

“…The chemical composition of which; mainly composed of lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose. Olive waste has a growing potential as a reinforcement filler materials among many other uses [3][4][5][6][7][8]. Qutaiba studied of a new range of sustainable reinforced polymer composite materials using powdered olive pits as a novel filler material to be used with epoxy resin.…”

“…Pineapple leaf fibre (PALF) is one of the waste materials in agriculture sector, which is widely grown in Malaysia as well as Asia. After banana and citrus, pineapple (Ananas comosus) is one of the most essential tropical fruits in the world [8]. Natural fibres influenced mechanical strength due to chemical composition such as to cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin and its orientation and some other factors such as type of plant, environmental factors during growth as well as extraction methods used [9].…”

“…Pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) was selected as reinforcement materials for phenolic resin due to the following reasons. First, PALF has good tensile strength (400-1600 MPa) and modulus (59 GPa) due to its high cellulose content 70-82% and high degree of crystallinity [8]. Second, since pineapple can be cultivated throughout the South-East Asia, it is possible for significant domestic production of PALF [23].…”
