Abstract: The gmall auxin I I P !NA (SAUR) genes were originally characterized in soybean, where they encode a set of unstable transcripts that are rapidly induced by auxin. In this report, the isolation of a

“…SAUR transcripts, which are among the most unstable plant mRNAs, with half-lives of between 10 and 50 min, are induced within minutes of the application of auxin. The instability of SAUR mRNAs has been attributed mainly to the presence of a conserved DST element in their 39 UTRs (Gil et al, 1994;Gil and Green, 1996). Consistent with data obtained for the SAURs, our analysis of two photosynthetic genes led to the observation that the 39 UTR of RbcS1 and Cab1 mRNA harbors one of the important determinants of instability of these transcripts under stress conditions.…”

“…Using Bioconductor analysis tools, we identified 213 genes that are induced and 220 genes that are repressed in the vfb mutants compared with the wild type (odds of differential expression $95% and fold induction $1.5; see Supplemental Tables 1 and 2 online). While the gene products of the misregulated genes have a wide variety of biochemical functions, we noted that two gene families are overrepresented within the group of repressed genes, namely, auxin response and signaling genes (21 genes) and genes encoding cell wall metabolic enzymes (24 genes) ( Table 1 (Gil et al, 1994;Leyser et al, 1996;Tian and Reed, 1999;Marchant et al, 2002;Tatematsu et al, 2004;Yang et al, 2004;Overvoorde et al, 2005). The AUX/IAA genes encode unstable repressors that control the expression of auxin-induced genes in the absence of auxin (Reed, 2001;Tiwari et al, 2004;Overvoorde et al, 2005).…”

“…It is less clear if this phenomenon reflects a convergence at the level of transcriptional control . To determine whether auxin and brassinosteroids coordinately regulate activity on target gene promoters, we analyzed the regulatory region of SAUR15, one of the best characterized auxin-and brassinosteroid-responsive genes (Gil et al, 1994;Green, 1996, 1997;Nakamura et al, 2003a). SAUR15 is rapidly induced following hormone treatments (Gil et al, 1994;Nakamura et al, 2003a).…”
