“…This difference between gay Asian males and Asian lesbians may be attributed to gender. While Asian men are commonly viewed as unattractive dating partners (Feliciano et al, 2009; Fisman et al, 2008), Asian women may be perceived as more desirable due to their feminine physical traits (Stephen, Salter, Tan, Tan, & Stevenson, 2018). Regardless of one’s own complexion, Asian lesbians may recognize their somewhat elevated position in the dating market and feel that they are able to demonstrate a higher level of selectiveness when seeking potential female partners.…”

“…Regardless of one’s own complexion, Asian lesbians may recognize their somewhat elevated position in the dating market and feel that they are able to demonstrate a higher level of selectiveness when seeking potential female partners. However, as studies such as Stephen, Salter, Tan, Tan, and Stevenson (2018) do not consider the role of skin tone on perceptions of desirability, this is merely speculation. Further investigation into the topic of skin tone preferences among Asian lesbians of darker complexions is needed before drawing definitive conclusions.…”

“…Women are therefore expected to show a preference for masculine facial appearance and muscular bodies in men. However, studies asking participants to choose between masculinised and feminised versions of men's faces typically find either no preference for masculinity (Swaddle & Reierson, 2002;Scott et al, 2010;Stephen et al, 2012) or a preference for feminised faces (Mogilski & Welling, 2017;Perrett et al, 1998;Stephen et al, 2018), possibly because high testosterone levels and masculine facial shapes are associated with personality traits that are detrimental within long-term partnerships (e.g., aggression and infidelity; Lee et al, 2017;Mazur & Booth, 1998;Perrett et al, 1998). This hypothesis suggests that women's mate selection mechanisms may be performing a trade-off between masculine men who may have "good genes" but personality traits that are undesirable in a long-term partner and father, and feminine men who may be less prone to aggressive behaviour and are more suitable as husbands and fathers.…”

“…Currently, the number of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed on men is rapidly increasing, 62 and 3D simulations have confirmed that V-shaped lift/standard lift surgery in males leads to feminization of the male appearance 63 . A feminized male appearance in marketing appears to be more readily accepted or preferred by the public in some countries or regions, 64 while the public prefers masculine male faces or feminine female faces in terms of attractiveness of sex appearance 65 . As facial anthropometric data of adult Mongolians in Mongolia have not been identified, the data in the present study were compared with Chinese Mongolians (17 ethnic groups) 66 .…”
