Abstract: Introduction  Low-tone sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) is a well-recognized disease, in which the hearing loss is restricted to low frequencies. In contrast to low-tone SSHL, high-tone SSHL is characterized by high-frequency (4,000, 8,000 Hz) hearing loss and preservation of low-, middle-frequency hearing. Objective  The objective of this study is to compare the hearing recovery and long-term outcome of low-tone SSHL with those of patients affected by high-tone SSHL in a follow-up of ∼ 3 years. “…Low-tone SSNHL differed from the sudden SSNHL in terms of male-to-female ratio, age distribution, pathology (ELH), treatment methods, and high hearing recovery prognosis. They thought that the two diseases belonged to different categories of inner ear disease [Shimono et al, 2013;Im et al, 2016;Sato et al, 2017;Yoshida et al, 2017;Myung et al, 2018;Psillas et al, 2019;Yakunina et al, 2019]. From our study, we speculate that history of migraine maybe another cause of low-tone SSNHL.…”

“…Pecorari et al concluded that the presence of tinnitus during follow‐up was associated with a higher rate of recurrence 8 ; however, more than half of the patients had tinnitus during follow‐up so it was not a particularly useful predictor. Psillas et al compared low‐ with high‐tone SSNHL and concluded that the recurrence rate was higher in the low‐tone group 10 . Seo et al reported increased neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte and platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratios in patients with recurrent SSNHL compared to controls 9 …”

“…All studies were retrospective. Four 6 , 8 , 9 , 10 of the seven studies reported the gender of all SSNHL patients (Table 4 ); 312 (45.3%) of 688 patients were male. Four 9 , 11 , 12 , 13 of the studies reported the gender of the recurrent SSNHL patients; 38 (52.1%) of the 73 recurrent patients were male.…”
