Clickable polyglycerol hyperbranched polymers and their application to gold nanoparticles and acid-labile nanocarriers

Abstract: A one-step, large-scale preparation of alkyne-containing hyper-branched polyglycerols (HPG) is reported. The HPGs undergo click reactions to organic azides allowing a range of applications.

“…18 To prepare HPG, sodium hydride (NaH) was mixed with the alkyne initiator, 4-pentyn-1-ol at a 1:10 molar ratio. The mixture was stirred for 15 min followed by addition of doubly distilled glycidol by a syringe pump (1.2 mL/h) while stirring at 70 °C.…”

“…194 In contrast to these perfectly branched dendrons, alkyne-core hbPGs 195 were used for the HIGHLIGHT preparation of potential biological imaging agents, such as monofunctionalized fluorescein or biotin hbPG, for the stabilization of gold nanoparticles, and the synthesis of unimolecular acid-labile micelles that are capable of incorporating nonpolar guests.…”
