“…The diametric hypothesis addresses the puzzle of why, although 90% of women experience retrograde menstruation (Halme et al, 1984), only 5%-10% of women develop endometriotic lesions: (1) Low Another important hypothesis for the etiology of endometriosis is based on inflammatory activation of developmentally mislocated stem cells, or Müllerian fragments (Russell, 1899;Sasson & Taylor, 2008). By the diametric model, such events are mediated by effects of prenatal testosterone on expression of reproductive developmental genes including HOXA10 (Cermik et al, 2003;He et al, 2018) as well as other genes involved in cell apoptosis, migration, and proliferation (Knapczyk-Stwora et al, 2019;Laganà et al, 2017).…”

“… Knapczyk-Stwora et al (2019) found altogether 5,592 RNA sequences to be lncRNAs, among which, 136 (at 53 long non-coding loci) were annotated within relevant databases among 11-day-old piglet ovaries. Meanwhile, the same authors discovered altogether 4,669 RNA sequences to be lncRNAs, among which, 1,236 (at 355 long non-coding loci) were annotated within relevant data-bases in pigs by illumina sequencing ( Knapczyk-Stwora et al, 2020 ). In the current study, we found 92 lncRNAs from porcine GCs by PacBio sequencing, and such number was significantly lower than previously reported.…”

“…We demonstrated that neonatal exposure to androgen and estrogen agonists or antagonists, such as testosterone propionate (TP; a synthetic androgen), flutamide (FLU; a nonsteroidal antiandrogen), 4-tert-octylphenol (OP; compound with estrogenic activity), ICI 182,780 (ICI; a pure antiestrogen), and methoxychlor (MXC; compound with estrogenic, antiestrogenic and antiandrogenic properties), influenced the number of primordial and primary follicles in piglets (Knapczyk-Stwora et al, 2018). Moreover, using a RNA sequencing approach, we showed that neonatal exposure of piglets to FLU and OP altered the expression of genes involved in ovarian cell proliferation, apoptosis, and steroidogenesis (Knapczyk-Stwora et al, 2019;2020a). Thus, both androgens and estrogens are important for the proper follicle assembly and activation in neonatal porcine ovaries.…”
