Fatores associados à osteopenia e osteoporose em mulheres submetidas à densitometria óssea

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of osteopenia and osteoporosis in a female population, that had bone mineral density (BMD) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in a specialized clinic in the south of Brazil. We conducted a cross-sectional study including 1,871 women that performed scans between January and December 2012. We conducted a logistic regression analysis with all independent variables and outcomes (osteopenia, osteoporosis and fracture risk). According to DXA resul… Show more

“…This result suggests low or non-existent osteoid matrix formation and, therefore, likely low structural stability. These observations are consistent with previous descriptions of commonly identified histopathological abnormalities in bone with mineralization deficits, such as osteoporosis 2,5 .…”

“…The presence of growth failure lines can be triggered by secondary osteoporosis as suggested in a recent study 2 . It is evident that angiogenesis is evident in the trabecular bone, indicative of the acute phase of bone repair, with osteoid matrix structuring of immature braided osteophyte immediately adjacent to the blood vessels and massive infiltration of active osteoblasts, suggesting that they are responsible for matrix deposition.…”

“…Assim, as mulheres seriam mais acometidas por essa enfermidade, demandando atenção. A perda de massa óssea ocorre para ambos os sexos na maioria das vezes após os 65 anos de idade, contudo os homens são menos susceptíveis a desenvolver essa patologia, devido a um maior ganho de massa óssea durante a puberdade e menor detrimento dessa massa durante o envelhecimento 38 . A maior prevalência da osteoporose no sexo feminino tem como consequência maior ocorrência de quedas 15 .…”

“…In view of this epidemiological situation, the identification of factors associated with bone health is fundamental to combat the progression of osteometabolic diseases. In this sense, studies have shown that age and gender (5)(6)(8)(9)(10) , use of medications and hormones (11)(12) , body composition (6)(7)(8)(9)(10) , behavioral and environmental aspects (13)(14) , and food consumption (15) are factors associated with bone metabolism. However, few studies have been conducted with adults of both genders (4,16) , and the existing studies assess risk factors in isolation (5,15) .…”
