Rehabilitation of hamstring muscle injuries: a literature review

Abstract: Hamstring injuries are among the most frequent in sports. The high relapse rate is a challenge for sports medicine and has a great impact on athletes and sport teams. The treatment goal is to provide the athlete the same functional level as before the injury. Thus, functional rehabilitation is very important to the success of the treatment. Currently, several physical therapy modalities are used, according to the stage of the lesion, such as cryotherapy, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, therapeutic exerc… Show more

“…In recent decades, the range of biomedical application of lasers has extended significantly and shifted from surgical instruments [1] and physiotherapeutic techniques [2,3] towards the treatment of neoplastic diseases [4,5] and manipulations in cellular and molecular medicine [6]. The latter requires a deeper understanding of mechanisms of laser radiation interaction with biological structures.…”

“…Rehabilitation is very important after injuries or surgical repair. Despite the existen rehabilitation protocols [6] there is no evidence of validated functional protocols that emulate the specific motor task. Moreover, for football players, rehabilitation is seldom complete [7] giving rise to unwanted sequelae.…”

“…To foster quantitative evaluation of rehabilitation further the efficiency of sports traini developed CINARTRO [8] to quantify movement, CINAR-3D [9] to esti rotation and DINABANG [10] to measure motor task force for hamstring strains avoidance during guided exercise. To this end, DINABANG is able to measure angular velocity, force and Santos et al;JSRR,23 (6): 1-8, 2019; Article no.…”

“… 1 , 2 , 3 The high injury and recurrence rates of hamstring injury result in significant time and financial loses and unfortunate consequences. Although tremendous efforts have been made to prevent hamstring injury 4 , 5 and improve the rehabilitation of the injury, 6 the injury and recurrence rates have remained unchanged in the past 3 decades. 7 , 8 …”
