The use of internal skeletal structures is valuable to phylogenetic reconstruction within Hymenoptera; however, these structures were not further investigated for Augochlorini. Previous phylogenetic studies of Augochlorini based only on external morphology were poorly resolved. The objectives of this work are to explore the comparative morphology of internal structures of the mesosoma and to evaluate their potential as information sources for the phylogenetic relationships within the tribe. The internal structures of the Pseudaugochlora graminea (Fabricius, 1804) mesosoma are described in detail and compared with 16 other genera. We propose 24 new character statements for the Augochlorini phylogeny based on internal structures of mesosoma. Prosternum, propleuron and meso/metafurca provided a great number of informative characters. On the other hand, the mesophragma, metanotum and propodeum were less variable. The monophyly of Augochlorini and of all genus groups was corroborated in a parsimony analysis of internal and external morphological characters. Characters derived from internal structures provided the first‐known morphological synapomorphies for the clades: Megaloptidia group + others, Neocorynura group + others and Augochlora group + Megalopta group. These characters helped to elucidate the evolution of the group when analysed together with external morphological characters.

AbstractThe species of the chrysidid genus Ipsiura are reviewed with emphasis on the taxa occurring in Brazil. In the present study 34 Ipsiura species are recognized, diagnosed, and illustrated. Two new species are described here: Ipsiura bohartiana Lucena sp. nov. and I. duckeana Lucena sp. nov., and two others are transferred from Neochrysis to Ipsiura: I. assecia (Linsenmaier, 1997), comb. nov. and I. guayanensis (Linsenmaier, 1997), comb. nov., increasing to 41 the total of valid species in the genus. New diagnoses and redescriptions are provided for 34 species based on study of their types. For the first time, a comparative and illustrated study of male genitalia is presented for the majority of Ipsiura species. Notes on types and depository collections, a revised key for identification of species along with illustrations of diagnostic features, as well as geographical distribution maps are also given.

What’s flashing in Kadamaian? A Note on Fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) in Kadamaian, Sabah

A firefly survey was conducted in Podos, Melangkap Noriou and Pinolobu in Kadamaian, Kota Belud during the Borneo Geographic Expedition Kadamaian 2019. A total of 48 fireflies were collected representing at least seven species consisting mainly of Luciola spp. and a single individual of Pyrocoelia sp. larva. Identification reveals that two samples are potentially new records to Borneo; cf. Aquilonia sp. and Medeopteryx sp., and also Luciola niah as a new record for Sabah. Furthermore, four samples have unique morphological characters including the potential Aquilonia and Medeopteryx samples and two Luciola samples. Fireflies were caught in various locations such as near rubber plantations, trails and rivers. Findings from this report expands the distributional knowledge about Lampyridae in Borneo.
