Background: Hypothermia contributes to morbidity and mortality of newborns. While there have been improvements in neonatal mortality both globally and nationally, there are still important regional differences. Adopting prevention and intervention practices to reduce hypothermia at birth may help achieve the global and national goal of reducing neonatal mortality. Purpose: To assess the contribution of admission hypothermia to mortality among hospitalized newborn infants. Methods: Retrospective cohort study was conducted in Sheik Hassan Yabare Jigjiga University Referral Hospital. Neonates were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit were selected by using simple-random sampling technique from record of neonates. Descriptive survival analysis such as Log rank test, life table and Kaplan-Meier survival curve and bivariate and multivariate inferential Cox regression were used to estimate hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Among 588 neonates, 146 (24.8%) died and 442 (75.2%) were censored. A total of 2509 days were followed for hypothermic neonates and 2337 days for normothermic neonates. The death rate was 37 per 1000 days and 22 per 1000 days for hypothermic and normothermic neonates, respectively. Survival function between the two groups differed significantly.

Objective: to analyze the NANDA-I taxonomy “maternal-fetal dyad” concept in high-risk pregnancy. Method: an integrative literature review based on the Conceptual Analysis model proposed by Walker and Avant. It was conducted at PUBMED, CINAHL, SCOPUS, LILACS and SciELO, with the descriptors: Complications of pregnancy, Risk Factors, and Pregnancy, High-Risk (from 2008-2020). Result: the sample consisted of 44 articles, which identified two attributes and 21 antecedents of the concept. Conclusion: concept analysis allowed to identify the attributes and antecedents of the “maternal-fetal dyad” concept in high-risk pregnancy, in addition to raising and clarifying ideas. It was possible to identify 12 antecedents that are not included in NANDA-I as well as the need to review the definition of the diagnosis proposed by the taxonomy.

Apgar Score (AS) < 7 is a predictor of mortality. Survival is shorter in newborns, with AS5min < 7 and the use of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze whether maternal, obstetric, anthropometric, and postnatal variables of newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) may be associated with AS5min < 7. If this score is a predictor of morbidity and mortality, and if factors most associated with the worse AS interfere with survival. This observational, retrospective, and quantitative study used a descriptive and inferential approach to analyze the medical records of patients of both sexes treated in the NICU of a tertiary hospital which is a recognized reference center of maternal and child health, during 2017. Data were collected to verify the relationship between AS values (AS5min < 7 and AS5min ≥ 7). AS5min < 7 was associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), premature rupture of the amniotic membrane, vaginal delivery, fetal trauma at birth, abdominal perimeter, and ventilatory support. Among these, HDP and the use of IMV were predictors of lower survival. Conclusion: AS5min was associated with maternal, obstetric, anthropometric, and postnatal variables of neonates admitted to the NICU. Specific maternal and postnatal variables interfered with the survival of these newborns.
