“…These results differed from those reported by others; the average annonacin content of A. triloba fruit pulp was reported to be 7.01 mg/100 g (Potts et al, 2012) compared to 375.0 to 772.4 mg/100 g in pawpaw fruit (Levine et al, 2015). The annonacin content of pawpaw fruit determined in our study (except that of RFW and RFM) was higher than that of graviola (Annona muricata) leaves (30.56 mg/100 g; Moraes et al, 2016). The relative amount of acetogenin compounds is likely to be reflected in bioassays (Pomper & Lane, 2009), with bioactive compounds, such as phenolics present at higher levels in unripe than in ripe pawpaw fruit (Kobayashi et al, 2008).…”

“…In a separate study, freshly lyophilized graviola leaves were found to have 305.6 + 28.3 mg/g-dw annonacin and 17.4 + 0.89 mg/g-dw squamocin. 31 On the other hand, a hot, aqueous infusion (tea) solubilized only 0.213% (0.65 + 0.07 mg/g-dw) of the annonacin from 2.5 g of dry leaves and too little of the squamocin to be detected. 31 The treatment of LUHMES cells with extracts from 3 of the 4 dietary supplements led to a reduced cell viability.…”

“…The extraction was conducted in a shaker in a thermostatic bath (TE-052 Dubnoff Fibralimentar, Tecnal, Brazil) at 80 rpm and 50 C for 15 min, and the extracts were then filtered through a Büchner funnel with a vacuum pump. The experimental conditions used (Ethanol/water concentrations, temperature and extraction time) were optimized from a previous study by our research group (Moraes et al, 2016), but the final work with optimization planning has not yet been published.…”

“…Phytochemical screening of A. muricata leaves extracts revealed that they are rich in secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, saponins, terpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins and lactones, anthraquinones, tannins, cardiac glycosides, annonaceous acetogenins, phenols and phytosterols (Gavamukulya et al, 2014;Moraes et al, 2016). The high presence of phenolic compounds confers potent antioxidant capacity to the leaves and their extracts (Nawwar et al, 2012).…”
