Adverse effects of polychemotherapy for leprosy in 13 years of follow-up at a university hospital

Abstract: Leprosy is one of the neglected diseases in the world and Brazil is the second country with more cases. A retrospective study was conducted based on the medical records of 196 leprosy patients diagnosed during the course of 13 years at a university hospital. The aim was to describe the adverse effects of polychemotherapy, as well the most prevalent and most vulnerable populations. “…Os medicamentos analisados da terapia padrão foram a rifampicina, clofazmina e dapsona, sendo estes também os que continham mais efeitos adversos, além das drogas de segunda escolha, minociclina, ofloxacino e claritromicina. mais pronunciados do que nos homens em todos os grupos.Uma vez que, o sexo que desenvolveu mais reações adversas foi o feminino e com idade superior a 45 anos(TORTELLY et al, 2021;PANTE et al, 2018).Segundo a Tabela 1, a dapsona é a droga com mais efeitos adversos, sendo os mais abundantes, a metemoglobinemia e a anemia hemolítica.
