Abstract: Salinization of soil with sodium chloride ions inhibits plant functions, causing reduction of yield of crops. Salt tolerant microorganisms have been studied to enhance crop growth under salinity. This review describes the performance of endophytic fungi applied to crops as a supplement to plant genetics or soil management to alleviate salt stress in crops. This is achieved via inducing systemic resistance, increasing the levels of beneficial metabolites, activating antioxidant systems to scavenge ROS, and modu… Show more

“…This also show consistency toward the current nding of our study that isolate CSL1 produce IAA and enhance growth, biomass and tolerate soybean plants to salinity stress upon inoculation (Fig 1A). Other important osmolytes in plants are organic acids that are found in plant vacuoles and regulate crucial role in abiotic stress tolerance including salinity stress [1]. Previously, reported that fungal endophytes release organic compound that assimilate plant growth under saline condition [40,41].…”

“…Salinization of soil with sodium chloride is one of the most devastating environmental stress that inhibits plants functions, causing reduction of crops yield and quality [1]. Currently 20% of total cultivated and 33% of irrigated agricultural land is affected by salinity stress worldwide.…”

“…The endophytic plant-fungal (EP) association can alleviate salinity stress in plants (Gupta et al 2020). In salinity stress, an increase ROS accumulation occurs in tomato, rice, and dunegrass without endophytic associations, whereas the EP had low values of ROS accumulation by mitigating several different pathways (Singh et al 2011).…”

“…The measurement of total biomass is employed to calculate plant's potential to endure salinity. The role of endophytic fungi in salinity tolerance in host plants by increasing biomass as compared to non-endophytic plants (NEP) has been emphasized by (Rho et al 2018;Gupta et al 2020). In another report after the colonization of an endophytic fungus, Piriformospora indica in tomato plants the proline accumulation was reduced as the toxic effects of salinity were reduced (Abdelaziz et al 2019).…”
