Introduction to Multibiometrics

Abstract: A novel approach is proposed for blind synchronization of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The power spectrum and spectral correlation, computed using frequency domain signals, are exploited to independently recover the timing and carrier frequency offsets in closed form. The proposed estimators performance is evaluated for the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and the Rayleigh fading channels. They show enhanced performance in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE) when compared to esti… Show more

“…To address these issues, an emerging and continuously evolving technology known as biometrics has become widespread [1]. There is a reasonably permanent link between an individual and their biometric traits [2], biometrics thus can be employed in covert person recognition or in applications where an individual may attempt to conceal their true identity (e.g., using forged documents to cross borders). Although, biometrics has several advantages (e.g., nonrepudiation) over tokens or passwords, it suffers from false matches [11].…”

“…1c. Though there exist several biometrics survey/review papers [4-6, 9, 10, 15] and books [2,3,11], their scopes are limited. For instance, [4] is focused mainly on physical biometric traits.…”

“…Because the discriminatory power of the two features is different, weights for the normalized distances are calculated using the mean-variance method. This method yielded superior results in comparison to other normalization methods [31]:…”

“…Performance can be complemented with combining multiple biometric traits such as face and iris to keep both high performance and high collectability. This approach is known as multimodal biometrics 4) , which is one of active research topics in biometrics. Table 2 summarizes the number of papers for each biometric trait presented in the international conferences related to biometrics, where the number of papers was counted by the authors.…”
