Abstract: A classification scheme for periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions is necessary for clinicians to properly diagnose and treat patients as well as for scientists to investigate etiology, pathogenesis, natural history, and treatment of the diseases and conditions. This paper summarizes the proceedings of the World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. The workshop was co-sponsored by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Fede… Show more

“…Inclusive criteria: (a) no systemic diseases (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. ), no smoking, and no taking antibiotics for the past six months; (b) healthy periodontal volunteers who need periodontal esthetic surgery or crown lengthening surgery: no gingival inflammation and probing bleeding; probing depth (PD) ≤ 3 mm; (c) Patients with periodontitis (stage III, grade C) according to new classification of periodontal diseases . After periodontal initial therapy, the tooth (PD ≥ 5 mm, BOP (+)) needed surgical therapy, and alveolar bone loss measured by X‐ray extended to middle of root and beyond.…”

“…inflammation and marginal bone loss 1,30. So even though,10.7% of the treated cases showed BOP in the follow-up evaluation, this positive parameter was not considered as presence of disease since it was not correlated with other inflammation and bone loss signs in the treated implants.Furthermore, various studies have claimed that one of the main etiological factors of PI is plaque accumulation 4,5,31,32. This study considered a surgical anti-biofilm strategy to eliminate or ameliorate this etiologic condition.…”

“…1 Despite advances in the understanding of the mechanisms involved in triggering asthma, various phenotypes and features related to pathogenicity remain unelucidated. 10 Periodontitis, a disease of multibacterial etiology 13,14 with a range of immunoinflammatory events, 13 is associated with the invasion of pathogens inside periodontal pockets, which transforms the oral microbiota into a dysbiotic community. 5,7 Diseases caused by viral and bacterial infections, 7-10 as well as chronic diseases, such as periodontitis, 3,11,12 can provoke the exacerbation of bronchial inflammation, disrupted mucociliary transport, and increased mucus production, which can worsen asthma.…”
