Abstract: Carbon nanostructures have emerged in recent decades as uniquely convenient materials for a number of technologies. Some of their envisaged applications require hybrid nanostructures that result from the coupling of semiconducting phases to the carbon materials. Here, we describe a new sonochemical method to decorate carbon‐based materials (multiwalled carbon nanotubes, graphene oxide, and graphite flakes) with metal sulfide nanophases. In this research, we have used a CdII alkyldithiocarbamate complex as a si… Show more

“…01-072-4873), which clearly confirms the presence of the metal sulfides on GO ( Figure 1 ). Note that the peak broadening observed for the CdS sample has been extensively reported as consequence of nanocrystalline diffracting domains [ 27 ]. In accordance with the XRD analysis, the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) measurements performed on all hybrid nanostructures showed the peaks for S and the metal (Ag, Pb, or Cd) of the respective metal sulfide phase.…”

“…The Raman mapping of the hybrid samples also corroborate the presence of metal sulfide nanophases distributed over the GO sheets, as discussed above for the TEM analysis. The method described here for decorating GO sheets can be applied to other carbon materials or by exploring other thermal treatment methods [ 27 , 48 , 49 ]. For example, it would be of great interest to apply this synthesis using less expensive carbon substrates and which also allow large-scale production.…”

“…Metal sulfide hollow structures can also be obtained by employing a single-molecule approach that provides the metal and sulfide in a single precursor compound. Hence, Trindade et al have explored the liquid phase thermolysis of metal dialkyldithiocarbamates in the presence of several types of heterogeneous substrates in order to obtain metal sulfides deposited onto amorphous SiO 2 nanoparticles [93], TiO 2 particles [94], carbon nanotubes [95] and GO sheets [96]. This method can be extended to coat sacrificial templates (e.g.…”
