Abstract: Various annealing temperatures below, near, or above the melting temperature were used to anneal polypropylene with oriented shish kebab and isolated spherulite structures in this work. The results showed that a high annealing temperature decreases the time needed to achieve the ideal material property. When the annealing temperature is near or above the melting temperature, the impact strength would be 1.6 times improved by partial melting and recrystallization. The crystal structure of the oriented shish keb… Show more

“…Under high temperatures, crystal structure and mechanical properties exhibit much stronger time dependence. Although a longer annealing time at a high temperature can involve crystal precursors transforming from row to point and destroying the oriented structures [ 22 ] , more perfect crystal structures and properties can be obtained by proper treatment within a short time [ 23 ] . In this paper, annealing at a temperature above T m is called High‐Temperature‐Annealing, which is expressed as high‐temperature‐annealing (HTA).…”

“…In the case of polymers with high viscosities, the occurring of oriented morphologies is inherent to the injection process and must be taken in consideration when implementing this type of shaping process. Moreover, it was shown in previous studies that the shish kebab morphology is preserved when the polymer is annealed below, near or above the melting temperature 34 . Accordingly, after annealing the polymer remains strongly oriented.…”

“…The property of polymer materials is closely relative to their microstructure, which depends on the processing conditions to a great extent. 8−10 Under a weak shear field, semicrystalline materials usually form an isotropic structure 11 (spherulite), which is the most common crystal structure of polymers. While under a strong shear field, polymer materials tend to form structures with high degree of orientation, such as a shish− kebab structure 12 or a cylindrite structure.…”
