Abstract: Zeolite Beta crystals in nanometer size (about 44 nm) were hydrothermally synthesized and its catalytic activities with and without Pt impregnation were studied for 1-hexene isomerization in presence of different carrier gases, namely, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide and also in the absence of carrier gas at reaction temperatures of 473-573 K and 0.1 MPa. General observation for all the cases was that with reaction temperature, hexene conversion increased, however, total isomer selectivity dropped. With … Show more

“…Solid zeolite catalysts have also been applied for terminal-tointernal isomerization of alkenes, but loss of selectivity due to side reactions, as well as catalyst coking, can compromise catalyst performance. 34,35 Previous work has shown that the mechanism for olefin hydrogenation is strongly influenced by crowding of the surface with alkylidyne intermediates that naturally form as spectators under reaction conditions. 15,16 It was shown that alkyl formation from pi-bound olefins (rather than di-sigma adsorbed olefins) was favored on crowded surfaces.…”

“…Pt and Pd loaded zeolites have been used for the selective hydrogenation of toluene with complete conversion and 100% selectivity under optimal conditions [2]. Modhera and coworkers studied hydroisomerization of 1-hexene over platinum loaded nanocrystalline zeolite-beta [3]. Nie et al investigated the conversion of citral to menthol by Zr-loaded nanocrystalline zeolite beta.…”

“…56 Modhera and coworkers studied hydroisomerization of 1-hexene over platinum loaded nanocrystalline zeolite-beta. 99 Nie et al investigated the conversion of citral to menthol by Zr-loaded nanocrystalline zeolite beta. The use of zeolite beta resulted in a high yield as well as high diastereoselectivity towards the desired product.…”
