Against the background of people’s increasing awareness of personal safety and property safety, the flame retardancy (FR) of materials has increasingly become the focus of attention in the field of construction engineering. A variety of materials have been developed in research and production in this field. Polymers have many advantages, such as their light weight, low water absorption, high flexibility, good chemical corrosion resistance, high specific strength, high specific modulus and low thermal conductivity, and are often applied to the field of construction engineering. However, the FR of unmodified polymer is not ideal, and new methods to make it more flame retardant are needed to enhance the FR. This article primarily introduces the flame-retardant mechanism of fire retardancy. It summarizes the preparation of polymer flame-retardant materials by adding different flame-retardant agents, and the application and research progress related to polymer flame-retardant materials in construction engineering.
This paper focuses on the effectiveness of removing Pb(II) from aqueous solution using bioflocculant MBFR10543 and a series of experimental parameters including MBFR10543 dose, calcium ions concentration, solution pH, and temperature on Pb(II) uptake was evaluated. Meanwhile, the flocculation mechanism of MBFR10543 was discussed. Results have demonstrated that the removal efficiency of Pb(II) reached 94.7 % (with the sorption capacity of 81.2 mg · g(-1)) by adding MBFR10543 in two stages, separately, 3 × 10(-2) % (w/w) in the 1.0 min's rapid mixing (180 rpm) and 4 × 10(-2) % (w/w) after 2.0 min's slow mixing (80 rpm) with pH value fixed at 6. Pb(II) flocculation process could be described by the Langmuir isotherms model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The negative Gibbs free energy change indicated the spontaneous nature of the flocculation. Fourier transform infrared spectra analysis indicated that functional groups, such as -OH, C=O, and C-N, were existed in MBFR10543 molecular chains, which had strong capacity for removing Pb(II). Furthermore, both charge neutralization and bridging being the main mechanisms involved in Pb(II) removal by MBFR10543.
With the development of human society, the requirements for building materials are becoming higher. The development of polymer materials and their application in the field of architecture have greatly enhanced and broadened the functions of building materials. With the development of material science and technology, many functional materials have been developed. Polymer materials have many excellent properties compared with inorganic materials, and they can also be improved to enhance functional properties by blending or adding various additives (such as flame retardants, antistatic agents, and antioxidants). In this paper, polymer-based building materials are introduced with three classes according to the applications, that is, substrates, coatings, and binders, and their recent signs of progress in the preparations and applications are carefully demonstrated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
