Background/Purpose: To assess how the current COVID-19 epidemic influenced peoples' utilization of emergency dental services in Beijing, China. Methods: The first-visit patients seeking emergency dental services before or at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic were retrieved. Their demographic characteristics and the reasons for visiting were recorded and analyzed.
Objectives To assess the status of health services provision of public tertiary dental hospitals during the COVID-19 epidemic in China and to evaluate the regional difference of telehealth. Materials and methods The health services provision of public tertiary dental hospitals in China mainland during the COVID-19 epidemic was inquired. The status of non-emergency dental services, emergency dental services, and online professional consultation and the hospitals' geographical distribution were recorded and analyzed. Results All the 48 public tertiary dental hospitals suspended general non-emergency dental treatment while providing emergency dental services only. Ninety percent of them notified the change of dental services online, and 69% of them offered free online professional consultations. The penetration rate of online technology was significantly higher in the eastern region than that of the central and western regions. Conclusions There was a significant change in the health service provision of Chinese public tertiary dental hospitals during the COVID-19 epidemic and wider use of telehealth in the eastern region. Clinical relevance This report demonstrated that dental health services were significantly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in China, which might lead to a long-time impact on dental care in the future.
ObjectiveTo determine the accuracy of MR imaging with gadoxetic acid disodium (Gd-EOB-DTPA) for the detection of hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC).Materials and MethodsA systematic search was performed in PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database up to March 2013 to identify studies about evaluation of Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MR imaging in patients suspected of having HCC. The data were extracted to perform heterogeneity test and threshold effect test and to calculate sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, predictive value, and areas under summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).ResultsFrom 601 citations, 10 were included in the meta-analysis. The methodological quality of the 10 studies was good. Overall HCC: There was significant heterogeneity in the pooled analysis (I2 = 69.4%, P = 0.0005), and the pooled weighted values were determined to be sensitivity: 0.91 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.89, 0. 93); specificity: 0.95 (95% CI: 0.94, 0.96); diagnostic odds ratio: 169.94 (95% CI: 108.84, 265.36); positive likelihood ratio: 15.75 (95% CI: 7.45, 33.31); negative likelihood ratio: 0.10 (95% CI: 0.06, 0.15). The AUC was 0.9778. HCC in cirrhosis: The estimates were to be sensitivity: 0.91 (95% CI: 0.88, 0.93); specificity: 0.93 (95% CI: 0.89, 0.95); diagnostic odds ratio: 234.24 (95% CI: 33.47, 1639.25); positive likelihood ratio: 15.08 (95% CI: 2.20, 103.40); negative likelihood ratio: 0.08 (95% CI: 0.03, 0.21). The AUC was 0.9814. ≤20 mm HCC: The AUC was 0.9936. There was no notable publication bias.ConclusionsThis meta-analysis suggests that MR imaging with Gd-EOB-DTPA has high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of HCC, especially for ≤20 mm HCC. This technique shows good prospect in diagnosis of HCC.
Abstract:We investigated the effect of magnetic nanoparticles of Fe 3 O 4 (Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs) on the mice immune system. Imprinting control region (ICR) mice were assigned randomly into four groups and treated with normal saline or low, medium, or high doses of Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs, respectively. After intravenous administration of Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs for 72 hours, the peripheral T cells and the induction of primary immune responses in mice were investigated by flow cytometry and determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The results showed that the ratio of spleen to body weight was not different between the experimental groups and control group (P . 0.05). The lymphocyte transformation rates in the suspension of spleen were higher in low-dose group than those in the control group (P , 0.05), while the proliferation of splenocytes was low in the medium and high groups when compared to the control group (P , 0.05). In peripheral blood, both the proportions of subset CD4+ and CD8 + T lymphocytes in the low-dose group were higher than those in the control group, whereas there was no difference in the number of CD4 + T cells between the medium-and low-dose groups. Interestingly, the Nanotechnology offers an efficient alternative for cancer diagnostics and tumor target treatment due to the unique properties of nanostructures, such as large surface-to-volume ratio, porous structure, embedded effect, and size effect, which have been recognized as offering potential promising applications in biomedical engineering. Much effort has been extended to the development of novel nanocomposites and biomaterials for DNA detection, 1 intracellular labeling, 2 drug carrier, 3 cancer targeting, 4 imaging, 5 and so on. Therefore, magnetic nanoparticles of Fe 3 O 4 (Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs) as a kind of biocompatible nanomaterial which is feasible to characterize and easily functionalize, may offer an exciting development toward developing an effective drug delivery system while biocompatible superparamagnetic particles like magnetite could be utilized in tissue-specific release of therapeutic agents and magnetic field assisted radionuclide therapy. [6][7][8][9] As a novel material, though we have already proved that Materials and methods experimental agentsExperimental agents were sourced from the following locations: RPMI1640 (Gibco Chemical Co., Carlsbad, CA, USA); Anti-CD3 (PE-Cy5), Anti-CD4, Anti-CD8 ( Pharmingen, San Diego, CA); Calf serum (Gibco Chemical Co); Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit (Gibco, CA, USA); Con A (Sigma Chemical Co., St Louis, MO, USA). Preparation of Fe 3 O 4 -MNPsBased on our previous studies, 10-11 the synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs was prepared by the electrochemical deposition under oxidizing conditions. Before being applied in the present experiment, the magnetite nanoparticles were well-distributed in RPMI-1640 medium freshly added with 10% heated-inactivated fetal bovine serum (FBS) using ultrasound treatment in order to obtain Fe 3 O 4 -MNPs colloidal suspension. Tetraploid Artemisia annua plants were successfully inducted by using colchicine, and their ploidy was confirmed by flow cytometry. Higher stomatal length but lower frequency in tetraploids were revealed and could be considered as indicators of polyploidy. The average level of artemisinin in tetraploids was increased from 39% to 56% than that of the diploids during vegetation period, as detected by high-performance liquid chromatography-evaporative light scattering detector. Gene expressions of 10 key enzymes related to artemisinin biosynthetic pathway in different ploidy level were analyzed by semiquantitative polymerase chain reaction and significant upregulation of FPS, HMGR, and artemisinin metabolite-specific Aldh1 genes were revealed in tetraploids. Slight increased expression of ADS was also detected. Our results suggest that higher artemisinin content in tetraploid A. annua may result from the upregulated expression of some key enzyme genes related to artemisinin biosynthetic pathway.
