A indústria de fundição possui grande importância econômica e ambiental, porém, apesar do potencial de reciclagem, gera resíduos sólidos, como escória, areia de fundição e pó de ferro. Poucos estudos na literatura abordam sua caracterização e reaproveitamento, apesar de seu potencial de reaproveitamento. Nesse sentido, este trabalho tem como objetivo determinar as características físico-químicas, e a partir destas sugerir e incentivar o reaproveitamento dos resíduos do processo de fundição. Na caracterização da escória, areia de fundição e pó de ferro, foram determinados os teores de cinzas, carbono e nitrogênio total, comportamento magnético, granulometria e foi obtido o difractograma de raios-X dos resíduos. Os resultados sugerem resíduos sólidos como subprodutos para outras indústrias, evidenciando o grande potencial para o desenvolvimento sustentável. No entanto, reforçam a necessidade de mais estudos sobre sua caracterização, e reforçam a necessidade de uma avaliação contínua devido à variabilidade da matéria-prima.
