No presente estudo, foram estabelecidas rotinas computacionais através de um algoritmo desenvolvido no compilador Microsoft Visual Basic 6® com o propósito de obtenção da curva de retenção de água no solo, buscando uma aproximação sobre os parâmetros fixos (α, n e m) impostos na equação de Van Genuchten. Foi então empregado o Método dos Mínimos Quadrados, cuja finalidade está na obtenção da função objetiva, sendo, posteriormente, aplicado o Método de Newton para resolução de sistemas não-lineares. Dessa forma, com os valores obtidos é determinada uma matriz inversa, que, multiplicada pelo negativo da matriz função, extrai-se os respectivos "n-ésimos" deltas (ajuste dos parâmetros) até que sua aproximação seja menor ou igual à 0,0001 ou realize 20 iterações, sendo o "passo" para o cálculo das derivadas previamente concebido como 0,001. Para chute inicial, foram estabelecidos os valores de α, n e m, respectivamente, de 0,03; 1,8 e 0,6. Com tais dados convergidos, se comparou com trabalhos prévios realizados na leitura do solo de Cidade Gaúcha/PR realizando a plotagem da curva. Há possibilidade no uso do algoritmo, de maneira satisfatória, para modelagem matemática sobre a equação de Van Genuchten.
